Well, My husband and his mechanic just tried to slide the automatic transmission and engine back into the PD4501 and the oil pan is just a couple of inches too low. Now what? Is there a modified oil pan for the allison HT740? Do we try to modify the bulkhead? I don't want to weaken the bus. Dave thinks we can work this out, just like the custom hot rod guys do. I'M the one who needs the pep talk! Anyone out there with some HELPFUL information is welcome to comment, please. Thanks! |

The bulkhead is modified on other GM busses to add and automatic transmisison. Relax and wait on the necessary advice from those with experience. It can be done. |

Pat McNeal has done this on his Scenicruiser. If you want to talk to someone that knows Scenicruisers, he's your man. Not only knowlegeable, he's just a great guy. Let me know if your interested, I will try to hook you up. Rich 800-468-5287 |

Watch out Pat will probably end up talking you into adding 5 feet and an 8v92 to your rig - LOL |

These 4501's are so cool that they are worth the effort! To remove a little material from the bulkhead is fine, just don't get carried away. Cracks like to start at sharp corners so avoid them by having smooth radiuses instead of corners (use a holesaw if possible & then cut to the hole). If you are still concerned, add some reinforcement to the affected area. Good Luck, Rome wasn't built in a day! kyle4501 |

Yes, I am pretty sure Pat McNeil stretched his to 45'6" (he wanted it to be longer than a Prevost). He also raised the roof to maintain the same length to height ratio. His lengthening was not all in one spot. About 18" in front of the front wheels to allow a wider entrance door and the rest further back. Jack |

If you have to drive 500 miles to see Pat's bus, it is worth it. He has reskinned the shiny part in polished stainless and IIRC he did it WITHOUT RIVETS on a GM coach! Now there's a man with WAY too much spare time! (Man am I jealous!!) |
