I own an mc9 and have always been interested
in the 4905's. I notice that the wheel base shows
to be about 3ft longer than an mc9 yet the turning circle shows to be smaller. Does anyone out there have personal experience with both that can give me some insight into how they compare in terms of manuverability. Is a 4905
much lighter than an mc9 before conversion?

Thanks

My God Son, I didn't think anything had a wider turning radius than my 4905! It takes the proverbial 40 acre field to turn it around. This is the only detriment that I have with a Buffalo. A really nice smooth ride though. I'm unsure of the empty weight of a "9" , but my '05 weighs 24,375, which is 350 lbs more than when it was a seated coach. The weight went up a bit when I added the water cooled diesel genset. HTH Cheers...JJ

The tax axle and all that stainless probably adds another 3000# or so over the '05. Anybody weighed their 9?

For some reason, JJ's '05 weighs less than my '06 (25,560#), and he's got five feet on me! I guess the guy that converted mine used a lotta lead or something :-).

I'd like to get a Buff some day... five more feet, a sweet ride, and those freakishly cavernous bays. IMHO, they're the second-best looking coach out there (first are the Scenics). A charter '05 passed me on I-70 on my last trip to Texas... still making revenue with the old girl...

My 4905 weighed 20,000 lbs as a empty shell.
Don't know the weight right now, not finished yet.

My 4905 turns so sharp that I have to let off of the wheel so I don't hit the back of the coach! :-)
Mine weighs about 32,000 full of fuel, water and all the crap we haul ready to go.

Brian, my empty shell was about the same as John's. I had mine weighed several times on different scales, so perhaps your bathroom scales are off? ...JJ

Oh, I believe you, JJ on the weight. My prior bus, the 40', 102" wide Fishbowl weighed only 500# more than my '06 on the same scale, so I'm sure it's my bus that's just freaking heavy.

In the thread Chuck posted, RJ says his '06 shell is about 20k. I'm starting to think that the paneling and plywood my converter used extensively really plumped up the weight of my rig.

It's just a bummer to know that there's 40' converted coaches out there that are running lighter than my 35'-er. With fuel being so cheap and all right now... har har.

Brian, if the tag suspension steel is still in the rear bay of a 4905 it will add about #350 lbs. We've had this thread before and (as then) I wonder at the wide disparity in weights. My friend Charlie C's 4106 weighs within 450 lbs of my 4905 and he doesn't have a heavy water cooled diesel genset. Both were weighed on the same set of (supposedly certified)CAT scales at Grandma's Kitchen Truck Stop, in Ft. Myers, FL. Some time later, my weight jibed within 60 lbs on a genuine Arizona Dep't of Hwys scale. The CAT scales people guarantee a trucker if he gets an overweight ticket, that they will pay the fine for him. Maybe at the next Bussin' 2006, we can all come across a set of scales on the weigh in to the event and get a consensus of what's going on. Okay Jack? Cheers...JJ

I have seen a vendor at some conventions called something like "A weigh We Go" that will provide this service.
