I have a 4104 with a 4 speed and I am trying to calibrate the new speedometer..I know the tire rotation is 490 per mile..rear end ratio is 4.12..I pulled out the shaft that turns the speedometer generator and counted the gears..14, which is the driven gear...... what I cant find is the drive gear count..can't see the gear down in the tranny...can anyone give me the number of gears on this?????????? |

If your new speedo is one of the elctronic ones, I changed one on my Prevost and the conversion number in the instructions was way off. I just did the measured mile trick, and compared the indicated speed and distance with the actual based on the time and using a ratio I adjusted the conversion number. I had to fine tune it a few times but it got real accurate. I did not worry about my gearing. |

Is your ground strap from the case to the shift rod intact? |

Dan, I had the same issue with my 4104. I just marked the rear tire with chalk, rolled the bus ahead real slowly & had someone count how many turns the drive made in one revolution of the tire. I stuck an allen wrench in the drive as an indicator. I think mine came up about 2:1 but I have the 3.55:1 axle ratio. If you do it this way it doesn't matter what axle ratio or number of gears on the speedo drive, just the number of turns the speedo drive makes per mile. |
