M injectors were delivered in many military DD 2 stroke vehicles and at first overhaul replaced with N. Can anyone tell me exactly what the M is. I have heard many stories over the years. I would like to find out the real facts.

John
This is something that a friend and I have been wondering about for a long time. He has over 40 years experience working On 2 strokes. 30 was military, We have not been able to find out the answer. So a question never asked will always go unanswered. In my case curiousity is killing the cat What we have been told they are multi fuel and will burn anything including gasoline for a short time in a pinch. So we are on a fishing trip. To see if this is true. Yes, I know this is a long shot. We also had a friend with over 60 years DD hands on experience and he could not answer it. Both of these guys are not just parts changers they have done a lot of experimenting before our wonderful EPA came along. Knowledge is a fun thing and sometimes you find it in the most unlikely places.

Craig-

I didn't post that response to you, and I have no idea why that
happened, since it was the same subnet as the one I had been on.
My log does not indicate any such post, nor do I remember
making any such post.

Sorry, but there's no way I can follow up...

Craig-

Wow, talk about a bad case of CRS... Yes, I did indeed
post that off-hand comment. I found my ip log for Sunday
and there it was! 66.217.105.75 ! I made a few posts that
day. Sorry for the Clintonesque denial: "I did not have
text with that thread, Detroit M injectors"

I had really hoped someone would have answered your
question, since I obviously know absolutely nothing about
types of injectors, among the hoards of other areas of
expertise I lack.

With only a smattering of experience years ago, working in
a electronics plant fabricating various components for Military
usage... The company used a much more stringent quality
control for the items, rather than the more lax controls for
normal consumers. The items for the Military carried a specific
code, to identify the difference. You don't suppose the "M"
meant only that? For the Military?

Gentlemen, if I'm not mistaken, and that is a supreme possibility, the "M" is for Marine applications - But don't take my word for it, since FF appears to be unavailable, call the nearest large Marine Overhauler and ask the head wrench - HTH - Niles
