Hi All,

I'm helping a buddy with an inverter problem. He has a Heart interface 12V 2500 watt inverter. When I got to his coach, we checked the batteries and they were ok, 2 4d's. I checked 12V input to the inverter and its battery voltage 12.7VDC. Disconnected the 120VAC output, turned on the inverter and no output and no hum. Plugged in shore power and you could hear the transfer relay kicking in, after 30 to 50 seconds a relay in the inverter cycled constantly at 30 to 50 second interval. Did not check 12VDC output on the charger leads though.
Checked the remote panel and entered diagnose mode with results LED 1 on - inverter shutdown. LED 4 on - Short.
Removed the inverter and took it to the bench. Removed cover and began inspecting it. Noticed one tiny burnt trace on the ground plane of the long circuit board. Looked on the component side of the board and saw 4 or 5 IC chips totally fried and blown appart. We rested.

I read in past threads that there was someone that could work on this units, I searched the archives and could not find the reference.

My buddy recently acquired a S&S 1995 Monaco 400 cummins world allison pusher, and we suspect that the RV may have been jumped crossed and this may have fried the inverter.

I have the same inverter, albeit an older model, what can be done to protect it from a reverse jump?

Any thoughts

Thanks

Juan Contact Zantrex and give them the serial number. They have a great warrantee. They fixed mine at no charge even though I am the second owner. Just a thought. Mike
