I have some oil leakage from the turbo and want to know if rebuiling the turbo is a difficult task? Or cheaper to buy one already rebuilt? Ebay has one for about $550. |

our shop rebuilds turbos....and i'm the 1 that does it.... you must be able to measure the shaft, bushings, and housing very accurately... rebuild kits are cheap.....we send the turbine wheel, shaft and compressor wheel out for rebalancing prior to a rebuild...other than that, only a special pair of snapring pliers is necessary.... and be really clean.... |

i bead blast the hot section.... and change the nozzle if necessary...glass bead blast the cold section.... run the center section thru out hot vat....parts dept ships the turbine and compressor wheel off somewhere for balancing....it takes about a week for it to come back.... we're an engine rebuild shop...the cat engines i rebuild take about 350 man-hours to rebuild... so waiting a week isn't a problem.... |
