How should I go about fastening the rail to the side of the bus? I have 1/4" 20 thread aluminum rivnuts and then use bolts, or I have Cherry Max rivets that are used for aircraft construction and repair. Also should I use a bead of good quality 100% silicone or Butel tape between the rail and bus for a waterproof seal. What have you guys done? I only want to do this once.

Out of curiosity, what kind of bus do you have? Are you mounting your awning above or below the drip rail? What length awning go you have? I'm wondering about how and where to install mine (when I get to that point)? |

My awnings are ZipDee and the aluminum top rail was riveted through the skin to the tubular frame members.
While the installation is very strong that did not prevent a sudden and very strong wind gust in Colorado Springs from pulling out the rivets and ripping the awning off.
If you secure it to the coach through the skin only you are asking for trouble. |

Most of the converters put the SST bolts all the way through the coach wall, nut on the inside of the coach. They do this before they do the interior. If the coach is already converted, my converters use an AVK fastener. Thereaded "wellnut" that goes in place with a special tool. Give me a ring with questions.

I have a GMC. It's a 19' awning. I am mounting it above the drip rail. Mine has to have curved arms yours shouldn't have to. The MCI looks like the straight arms will work. Rich is right luckily I can still get to most of mine on the inside to put SST bolts with backing plates, but will have to use rivnuts or wellnuts on the rest. Glad I haven't put the over head cabinets up yet.
