It is black but, I don't think it's oil. Does this sound like a bad injector? Also that side smokes grey bad at startup then after warm gets better. After 10 miles or so no smoke until it idles again for a while.... |

it may be an injector..... the exhaust manifold can be removed to see which cylinder is not firing at low speed.... and the airbox cover can be removed to check condition of piston, rings and cylinder liner.... with a borescope, you can also see the exhast valves... |

Hi Lee My 8v71 did the same thing, once I got it out on the road (about 2000 miles later) it all cleared up, yes my problem was the injectors. I guess just not running it hard and just idleing around the yard made the black stuff ?? No I did not change them they cleared up just by running it.. |

This is what happens when you idle them, even the 4 cycles, friend has a 2001 truck with a cat in it, it has diapers around the exhaust manifold for those long idling type, and it smokes like hell after idling like that. You know that fuel is going down the cycles. Even running them at a high idle will do that, even at 1800. Happy idleing? Steve |
