Need some ideas for a door stop on single pc door so that it wont hit the rear view mirror. I have been looking on ebay at door stop/holders,but need something less complicated like a a folding flat bar arm, to fix to the frame above the window which is a lot stronger than it was BUT is it strong enough ? the door is at least 100 lbs .....Thanks... I had some 2" wide nylon webbing, black in color, that I took to the local upholstery shop and had them fold the ends and sew them back to the webbing. Ended up with pieces around 5" to 6" long with a small loop on each end. I then welded on a couple of heavy duty butt hinge halves. One to the door frame and the other one to the inside leading edge of the door. When the door is closed the two halves are parallel and approx 1" apart. The centerline of the pin is prox 3/4" away from the door frame. When I removed the center part of the hinge (what the hinge pin slides through), I had a 2" wide space that the webbing would fit . When the door is closed with the webbing in place, the webbing folds. When the door is opened, the nylon webbing goes to full length and even provides a little shock absorption as the door is opened to max position. You may need to experiment with the total length of the strap. If the webbing should fail, the hinge pins can be removed and a new piece can be sewn up and installed. Multiple points along the door is a better idea for this method, (say 2 or 3) as the load capacity of the webbing would not be nearly as compromised should a large gust of wind grab the door and extend it to the full open position. (Voice of experience talking here;) Works for me. |
