i just removed all the old wiring and ran new 3/0 battery cables. I hooked up battery disconnect switches to the starters and only have on battery to one starter. It seems now that i might of had a 24 or 36 volt system. needless to say i cannot get the engines to start up.please help with my problem. |

Look at the plate on the side of the starter or on the alternator. It will usually tell you the voltage. One battery is not usually enough current to spin over most detroits unless its an 8D and a really good one at that. If your starters are 24 volts you will need two heavy duty (big truck type)batteries in series for 24 volts. If they are 12 volt starters you will need 2 big capacity batteries in parallel (double the amps!) When you recabled everything did you run a ground or negative cable to each battery from the engine when you ran the Positive cable? Your disconnects need to be able to handle 1,000 amps surge to make a good solid connection for starting diesels. The starters pull a LOT of amps. |
