In the latest FMCA publication there was a listing of a major safety recall on certain Aqua-Hot and Hydro-Hot heating systems as well as Webasto coolant heaters. In spite of the fact that my serial number is registered with them, they did not notify me. Since the problem can result in a fire, I thought it was very important to let the Bus folks know about the recall. The following is the text from the FMCA website: Vehicle Systems Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 05E027000, which affects some 2002 through 2006 type A diesel-powered motorhomes from numerous manufacturers that are equipped with Aqua-Hot or Hydro-Hot diesel-fuel-powered heating systems. The potential number of units involved is 6,973. Certain Aqua-Hot and Hydro-Hot heating systems are equipped with Webasto DBW 2010 coolant heaters that have stainless-steel burner tubes that do not meet specifications and could fail prematurely. Should a burner tube fail, the coolant heater could overheat and possibly result in a fire. The Aqua-Hot and Hydro-Hot systems included in this recall were manufactured between December 1, 2002, and April 1, 2005, and have the following serial numbers: Aqua-Hot -- 02-1606 through 05-0249; Hydro-Hot -- HM/E 02-529 through HM/E 05-0374. Webasto Product North America Inc. has issued a separate recall (NHTSA recall 05E-015000) involving all DBW 2010 coolant heaters that the company manufactured between November 2002 and February 5, 2005. Webasto Product North America Inc., Vehicle Systems Inc., and various motorhome manufacturers are conducting the owner notification and remedy for this campaign. Technicians will replace the burner tubes with new ones. The repair should take approximately 30 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need your vehicle for a longer time period. For more information about this recall, contact Vehicle Systems at (800) 685-4298; Webasto at (810) 593-6104; or the manufacturer of your motorhome. Owner notification began in April 2005. Hello Webasto owners. When you get this done, would you post on here a more detailed description of what they did and what they really meant with the term "burner tube"? Always better to get first hand descriptions than the spotty recall notice! happy coaching! buswarrior |

Thanks Jim, I bought mine in 2000 from Wrico. After a year of use my burner tube was melted into a molten pile. I found this upon a routine seasonal inspection. The replacement tube was $169. My year model is not it the recall. I may need to give them a call. Thanks for the heads up. David Anderson |
