Remember when; You made $1.25 an hour and Gas was .29 a gallon. You made $1.60 and hour and gas was .39 a gallon Remember the panic in 1973 when gas went to .57 cents a gallon. You made $3.25 an hour. Remember today when you make $5.25 an hour and pay $2.75 a gallon for gas! Today it's a low of $2.49/9 to $3.05/9 here in Central Florida. Diesel is $2.77 a gallon. Your 40 foot Bus gets 7 mpg and so does your Hummer H2 ... |

What is really the true price of gasoline. If you figure in what the military spends to keep it flowing paid for with our tax dollars, we should be adding at least a couple of bucks per gallon. Figuring that currently we are spending in the billions of dollars. This brings us to approximately what they pay for it in Europe except their reason is higher taxes not all of it but some gets back to them in highway construction and mass transit. So at $5.00 a gallon I cant catch a decent bus and the California Highways are getting as many potholes as NY. |

Here's one that will get make you laugh. I am the Director of Emergency Management for an upstate NY county. In my vehicle fleet (which require gas/diesel) are a F250 4x4 (39 gallon tank, E350 (40 gallon tank), Oldsmobile (17 gallon tank), the Command Bus (110 gallons), 2 towable generators (320 gallons combined). This does not include fuel for small equipment. I was notified today that due to rising welfare/social services program costs my 2006 fuel budget will be cut to $2900.00 (2005 is $4200.00). Guess I'll be able to fill everything about twice for the year. I like the welfare formula better, Have a kid, get a raise. Need more, have another kid. |

Just thinking of times gone by, means nothing. But I do remember driving to El Paso from San Diego and having to buy gas in Tucson Arizona. I was driving a Datsun 500 and I remember I could barely afford the 10 cents it cost to buy a gallon of gas. But somehow I managed to scrape up enough to buy me 12 gallons and that took me the remaining 400 miles. I was a kid back then. I hope the kid doing that today will be able to scrape up the 36 dollars he will need. I bet he does. |

Another fuel related thing (heating fuel). There was a story in the paper today about how the applications for state home heating assistance have already exceeded the available funds. Local oil companies are also claiming that thier accounts recievable is growing every day because people can't pay thier oil bill. It's not gonna be pretty this winter. I imaging the feds will have to step in and assist the states with additional funding. Ross |
