Yea, damn fuel prices going up because of the hurricane and all, I decided I was gonna go fill up the ole' bus again. Well, I started it up, it ran for about 30-45 seconds or so and died.... Well, it's leaning a good ways to the left and it looks like most of the lines must pick up on the right... so I'm thinking that the turd must have lost prime again. Damn, that cost me over $900 last time... I am betting myself that it won't see the shop for it this time.... I am gonna try to get it going myself. Screw paying that kind of money for crap like that.

I just filled that thing up a couple days ago and all I have done is a touch of joy-riding. (Expensive joy-riding let me tell you.....) I hope that it is because it's leaning. I am thinking the lean it causing my problem, so I am gonna make 20 trips to the store with my 5 gallon can to fill it up. (Actually, I am really gonna buy a couple more cans... this is ridiculous.) I am thinking someone may have stolen some of my liquid gold fuel..... Either someone stole it or it's because it's leaning to the left. I was so mad... and to top it all off, I tore the damn door off the other day riding with it open. (The tire went into a low spot, the door caught on the ground and it ripped it up... way to go.) I am gonna buy a new door one day, until then, nothing a couple of EXTRA nuts/bolts can't hold...

I feel like going postal... No, not really. When you step back and look at it, it's kinda funny. With all that's going on because of the hurricane (Katrina), I have a hard time being mad. I wish the best for everyone that lives in LA, MS, AL, GA and FL and any other area hit hard by the storm.

When you say fill up, Does that mean to actually FILL the tank? Cause if you are just adding fuel and not filling it you may be running into problems.
The RTS tanks need usually at least 50 gallons on level ground for the fuel pickup to work. If its leaning then you must be down below that amount and the leaning is just making things worse.

Then, If you have run it out of fuel you may find that you will have to either remove the tank and repair/clean the trash screen on the fuel pickup.
Or figure out where to cut a honkin hole in the floor to get down to the top of the tank where the pickup is installed. I did that and just used a skil saw to cut out a 1 foot square hole once I located the fuel connection. Careful to only cut about 3/4" deep with the saw. The hole in my 102 RTS was in the middle of the walkway and then you have to make a patch to cover it up. I also installed a fuel sender while I had it open.
I also extended the fuel pickup tube closer to the bottom of the tank. Mine had a habit of starving for fuel when I made sharp turns unless I kept the tank absolutely full.

Good Luck.....

Roy

There is a fuel check valve on the drivers side mounted near the bulhead between the rear wheel and the engine bulkhead - it's accesable from under the bus

(DO NOT - REPEAT DO NOT - GO UNDER THIS AIR BAG BUS UNLESS YOU HAVE THE FRAME HELD WITH HEAVY DUTY JACK STANDS)

If it is leaking the fuel will drain back and loss prime

cheap part - I can fax parts manual picture if you need

Hi Roy
I know nothing about RTS and the info I am going to share was in our Newell coach and may not apply in your situation especially because of your out of level status. Our Newell tank had a 6 foot long 1/4" piece of plastic brake line attached to the tank through a fitting and on the end of the line was an air valve. If you lost prime on the Newell all you had to do was add air to the tank to about 80# from an air compressor. Then you would crank until the engine started. Very simple and inexpensive system that I had to use twice. Once because there was a hole in the line and once because changing fuel filters caused a loss of prime. Hope this helps in some way for you or someone else. I plan such a system in my Prevost that I am currently converting.

Hey everyone! I got it running ok... It took a while, but it cost much less than the last time. :-) Thanks to you guys.. I'm not sure what exactly got it going....

I bought a strap wrench from Napa, I could not unscrew the canisters containing the fuel filters... Well, they have this little nut thingy in the top... when I took it off the primary, fuel run out.... I put it back.... I took the same thing off the secondary and no fuel run out. Since it was at the top, I poured fuel in there as much at it would hold... (I added 15 gallons of fuel to the tank before beginning of work) Well, it started right up and then same thing... run for a few seconds and quit... So, I went and got 15 more gallons of fuel and added to the tank and repeat the above... ah, now we're rollin'. So, I drive to the closest fuel station and the bus held a whopping $2.59, of which probably a third was spewed back at me... I thought hell, it cost me that to drive there. So, best I can tell, I only have 100 gallon tank.... and best I can tell, it pays not to park the bus leaning to the left with less than about 70 gallons... how nice.

Well, needless to say, now we park leaning to the right instead. I will share future results of this. So, we're on the road again.. a few parts (none of which seemed particularly helpful... especially the pumps... they weren't pumping squat.) and some fuel a whopping 30 gallons to fill it up. Better than last time....

Sounds like you have a corroded fuel pickup line in the tank or a pinhole somewhere between the fuel pickup and the primary filter.

Hello Roy.

There will be a reason for this situation.

Find it and beat it to death!

Your coach's fuel system should work like your car: fill it up and have no worries until it is way, way down near empty, and then fill it up again.

Anything less is crap. Do not put up with crap.

Then enjoy your coach.

happy coaching!
