We found out when our new 4106 purchase broke down that AAA wouldn't cover us because we didn't have Plus RV, just Plus service. So we upgraded, and now that we finally found the right mechanic to fix our bus, today AAA said they don't cover buses, only RV's! I aske them how they distinguish from what the motor vehicle department titles as a motor home and what they want to call it, but they only replied they'd make sure to mail the information to me. Is there a company out there providing tow/ breakdown insurance for busnuts, or is AAA just bullying us?

I THINK Progressive Insurance had/has such breakdown roadside coverage for RVs, which include coaches. Now you have me wondering and I will re read MY policy. Sorry you are having problems with AAA.

Why did you tell them it was a "bus"? Does it have all the seats
and you're using it to carry passengers? If not, it's an RV built
on an (your bus make) shell. Sometimes too much information
can be harmful....

Let's see........ What is breakdown insurance?

Do you want to be towed if you break down?

I belong to the FMCA Emergency Road Service and Technical Referral. I pay for 3 years at a time and it costs me about $250. Somewhere near that price. They are located at 900 N. Havasu Ave., Lake Havasu City AZ 86403. 1-800-273-1110

This has nothing to do with the insurance on your bus.

You must be a menber of FMCA but that should not be a problem joining.

Check with your local Allstate agent. They have a roadside service that covers ALL your vehicles from the cycle to the RV. Run about $79.00 a year I believe - If I recall correctly mine was $79.00 the first year and then it went to $89.00. Check with the agent to be sure. Happy bussing.

Enjoying the journey in NC.

RoadCare Emergency Road Service. $89.95, and they guarantee to send the correct sized wrecker to give you a tow to a qualified service center, not just to the nearest place for repair. I've tried AAA, and Allstate, and have settled in with Roadcare. It's affiliated with the Good Sam Organization. Member info at 1-800-255-8546, and tell 'em JJ sent you! Cheers.

I first got AAA insurance in 1965 and dropped them in 2005. They simply are not the same company they used to be. Of course many are not, but that is no excuse when you pay good money for service you don't get and lies you do get.

Peg, look up Aon www.aon.com for your bus insurance as mentioned above (PLPD, collision, comp, etc.), and check FMCA or Good San for emergency road service. Two different animals.

For insurance purposes, be up front with them and tell them what you have. But don't go out of your way to tell everyone so. Particularly when you are trying to get an RV park space. Aon knows I have a bus conversion but the policy is written for a motorhome. Because under the law in California it is titled as a motorhome as is identified as such to whomever asks. Check your title and the law in your State.

Progressive insurance + Coach Net/ FMCA Emergency Roadside is what we use. Lots of other busnuts, too.

Very few other insurers and emergency roadside vendors know how to deal with our big rigs.

I've Goodsam Emerg Road Service, $90 a year, they cover everything you own.

Of course, never tested the bus break-down yet, hasn't happened yet!

They have been pretty good.....

AAA surprises me, that is a really irresponsible way to treat insurers.

The old AAMOCO motor club pulled the same thing with me. Told me they would cover a small RV to get the coverage, ie: my money. When a problem occuured, left me stranded. Now with BP, name changed, same management.

AllState used to play games under SEARS management but they are under new management for the last couple of years now. Policies probably changed for the better.

I've added ERS to my state farm policy for about $4 a year. I have not had to use it, but other people on this and other boards have with no problems. It is right there on the RV policy, so they should not be able to worm out of it.

I used to have AAA. I got tired of waiting for their service provider to show up & their growing list of exclusions.

I have my bus insured as a RV with state farm, $8.00 to add emerg road service. They wanted 2 exterior photos showing all 4 sides and photos showing the beds, kitchen sink, and bathroom. There is no room to dispute what I have insured. I did not try to hide anything. Polite conversation has worked very well for me so far in finding the loop-holes and pot-holes in the insurance area. I also carry high deductibles. I figgure that I don't want anyone else working on my bus for the smaller things & insurance is for the BIG things.

My view runs a lot like Kyle's. Since we live in Alaska and store our coach in Washington, we need some flexibility in getting help. With State Farm, we find the service we want and they pay the bill as a reimbursement.

The premium for Washington coverage is $17 per year, but the coverage is unlimited for our converted 4106.

Ray Lala went through some problems not too long back, and IIRC, settled on Coach Net as the best for him.

You might do a search for ERS insurance problems to get a feel for what has went on.

We have Foremost Insurance http://www.foremost.com/. During the first year of our coverage we used their roadside assistance twice. Once we were towed after running out of fuel and they couldn't get us started on the road (that's when we found out our fuel gauge was off). The second time, we got stuck in an area of Yellowstone that was not properly marked no large campers. Although the recovery was done by one of the wrecker services contracted with the park, we turned in our bill and received full reimbursement. And much to my surprise, my rate did not increase at renewal time (the recovery charge at Yellowstone was more than my premium for 2 years!)

Good Sam Club's ERS has been great for us, even when we were 4 hours from the nearest service. We can either pay and send in the bill or they will send service. I have done both with them. I still keep AAA plus for auto towing because they will get the cars home if they are less than 100 miles away, and they cover familly members for lower add on rates. Since I drive older cars, the peace of mind is well worth it. However, I would never trust them with my bus. Personally, I belive that most insurance companies will end up being disappointing for large RV ERS. I prefer to have someone who is RV knowledgable.
