Do any of you use Mobile Delvac 1240 (40 weight)oil in your 2-strokes and do you recommend? Would be interested in your oil comsumption (along with engine TBO) as well. I know Chevron Dello 100 is a good 40 weight two stroke oil but I am not finding it around where I live.

Greg
Check to see if there is a rating of CF-2 on the oil.. seems thats the secret pass word for the DD - 2 strokes.

Thanks Phil. Yes, both oils are CF-2 rated and detroit approves, but I really want experienced opinions from you guys before I fire my fresh rebuild. I am interested in real experience to learn if one is better than the other as far as consumptions and so forth.

I operate a large commercial fishing vessel with 8V71 main. I have used both oils. I seem to use less oil with delo 100 40, than 1240. The Chevron dealer claims that 100 was originally formulated specifically for Detroit 2 strokes.

If you've been using Delo 400 in your DD two stroke and switch to 100, expect your oil consumption to go down a little. According to my local oil distrubuter, 100 is less detergent than 400 so some crud will begin to close up the leaks. If you switch the other way, leaks get worse.

Here is what chevron had to say when I sent them email asking about the 100/400 issue:

"Don,
Delo 100 Motor Oil is a product specifically designbed to meet Detroit Diesel two-stroke engine reccomendations, including the 0.85% ash maximum limit for series 149 Engines. Delo 400 is a product designed to be universal to all engine manufactuers. The 40 weight product has a 0.96% ash content. Either product should perform well in your GM 4104 bus.
