I was very much surprised to find a cable to the speedometer on my newly acquired 4104? There is another cable coming up out of the trans and going through a hole heading forward so I assume it goes all the way to the speedometer?.

I thought they used electric speedometers with a gen on the trans and a wire from there to the speedometer?

Am I getting confused with a 4106?

I sure don't see how a cable this long could work without twisting so much that it would make the speedometer unusable, it is stable as can be.

I would hazzard a wild guess that it is a speedo cable it also might have a servo/sender if the bus was ever equipped with a Tach-O-Meter ( a charting speedometer & hourmeter of old )

I thought about a Tach-O-Graph but thought they were driven by the left front wheel?

Our 06 has a tachograph driven by the cable output from the tranny.

Yes parts are avilable , and ours still is installed & working.

If there is a problem with long sending lines GM doesn't know of it , and the unit is quite smooth.

It is a bit "pesamistic " in the adjustment and reads a bit low.

The Electric dash spedo is also instaslled and reads closer to a GPS.

The only hassle with the tachograph is its location is not in the usual drivers scan, so the simple trick of using painted pips on the speedo face to show what gear ranges are avilable is much more inconvienant.

Works for me,

FF,

Are both your tachograph and speedo gen driven by the same connection at the trans?

My maintenance manual shows a left front wheel drive that was probably only a mileage recorder, maybe one of those in the hub. I didn't read it carefully.

I have a tachograph on one of my antique trucks and the odometer in the speedo reads 00000.0.

I looked at one 4104 with one installed and wasn't crazy about the looks or the dash space occupied.

Only the speedo (Dixon) is driven by the sender on the front wheel.

The tachygraph only is driven from the cable from the transmission, and has speedo and odometer functions, as well as a wind up clock.

My 35'48 ACF Brill had a speedo cable. The assy started out as a larger casing/core, and about halfway, it reverted to the smaller diameter casing/core assy. Always worked fine. Remember to remove and lube core once in a while and use a grease that won't get stiff when cold. Synthetic?Old Stewart Warner catalog listed three cable/ casing sizes and all sorts of adapters.I don't know how many speedometer repair shops are left that can make up these cables and casings anymore.
