Does someone have the URL for allison info. I'm trying to get info on an HT-748 before I purchase it and had lost the Allison web site. I Google/ed it but didn't find what I use to have before the great crash a few months back. (hard drive crashed)! Many Thanks Ray

Ray, on the back of my manual, for my HT 748 ATEC, it says www.allisontransmission.com
I just tried it and it works.
If I can help, my manual was ordered on their web site. I think it was about $60
It is dated 1 May 1990, and covers HT, HTB 700 Electronic Controls Series Transmissions.
My email is listed in my profile.

ray.... i talked to jeff hartman at midcoast diesel today about your trans... he told me that the 748 is just the 8th version of the 740...as in 8th update...etc...unless its an htb... then it has a retarder... or an atec.. then its electronic... im looking at the parts/service manuals later this afternoon....

Yes Jim it is a htb 748 it does have aretarder. It does have a round cannon plug on the side. It was sold to me as electronic. I haven't received it yet. It is being shipped from Va. I've been trying to get a hold of you. I keep emailing the Jimcat2 address with no response. Thanks Ray

An HTB 748R is an ATEC transmission. The big square box on the rear of the trans is the retarder. The trans is all electronic and requires a communication link with the engine unless a modified ECM is utilized, which makes it a stand-alone. Are you using it in an electronic DDEC coach? The only reason I ask, is that the unit will require another 2 wiring harnesses and an ECM for the transmission. The ECM is usually mounted midship so the typical take out is going to have a harness from the trans to the ECM, and a harness for the push button control at the driver. An HT740 is the same thing with a mechnical or air shifter. It is a stand alone.
This is a 4 speed with lockup converter. It's fine for DDEC systems, but will be problematic to install into an MUI. This transmission is common in NJT transits with DDEC 1, and IIs. 4 Strokes used B500s. The trans will work with smaller 4 strokes OK.

Thanks Jr. I'm installing it in a mci8 but with a series 60 ddec3. I had purchased the installation manual for the s-60 with ddec3 and it lists the different types of trans. it supports and it does list the ATEC I believe it said it will be one of the pwm outputs. I would sure appreciate any further info you may have.
Thanks Ray
