Now and then the topic of these little critters pops up on this and other RV-related message boards. Here's a very interesting approach to the subject by Pete Snidal, a Flxible Clipper owner based in Grand Forks, BC, Canada:

"I think the little &(*&(^'s are the main thing that has to be dealt with in cabinet design. I've been careful to calk every joint between bulkheads, make the drawers run in closed sub-cabinets, and I leave a few tuna cans of special mouse delight - whole wheat flour mixed with cement powder. Binds 'em up pretty good, I guess. Best way I've found so far to keep it down to a dull roar."

My only comment would be that perhaps these tuna cans should be on the ground outside, so that the reaction doesn't leave an interesting fragrance inside the coach. . .

This has been the year for the little creeps here in Oregon. I had kept the bus clear until yesterday... the curse of an unfinished project from the weekend and already one got into the bay with the tanks. Well, the mouse is gone now but the project is still not done so another one could get in easy.

There is a product called fresh cab, which because it is a repellent is not of legal concern whether the unwanted guest may be squirrel, chipmunk or mouse. It is called "Fresh Cab" and it is a natural repellent of combined aromatic herbal ingredients. I had a trailer I used only 3 months a year that I stored in the forest in NY. It was pretty much a yearly ritual to clean out massive waste and usually a few dead bodies at the beginning of our summer stay. I must say without a doubt, the fresh cab totally reduced the problem to the point of only a few scats (as opposed to, well, a BIG cleanup.) It has to be replaced every 3 months, but I thought it was worth it, it smells waay better than moth balls, and it really worked! It was originally designed to store in cabs of unused and stored vehicles, RVs, etc. Make sure you at least use as much as recommended for the square footage you want to protect, and don't forget to freshen the supply when your 3 months are up!

I use fabric softner tissues, put them all over, don't smell bad, even if you are out in the woods and the nats are after you put one in you hat. Don't laugh, give it a try. When storing a car I even put a coupl in the eng. comp and in the air cleaner, just don't forget to remove when starting.

The only 100% solution is to fill in all the holes where the little &(*&(^'s can get in. I battled with them for weeks with everything from spring traps to poison to the mean spirited sticky traps and got nowhere.

Then I bought a can of expanding foam and spent about an hour wandering around and climbing under and sticking my finger in places it didn't belong. Filled every crack and crevace I could find working from both inside and outside, and haven't had a single mouse since then. Unit is sitting out in the back country surrounded by miles of land owned only by the mice and the owls and eagles that munch on them.

I have no mice. :-)

Jim-

In our vintage Massachusetts home, we had field mice get in
and take refuge in our attic. At a friends suggestion, we tossed
a few boxes of mothballs into the attic crawl space.

All night long, for nearly a week..... all we could hear every
*^%$##R(^% **# night, ALL NIGHT...... was the damned
&%^$@ mice tossing the mothballs around and down inside
the walls...

It was like living inside a frikkin pinball machine..

Thank you for letting me share that.
