Me and the wife are going to look for some design
idea's, and see what the vendor's have to offer.

If it is anything like the one last year at the Farm Show Complex, you will see alot of the same, same, same by different dealers.

I was looking for ideas for my conversion for family camping, but I was sadly disappointed in the motorhomes that were present. If I were building a luxury condo on wheels for two which is next to all utilities, there were plenty of amenities to choose from. I found the most innovative ideas in the smallest campers and van conversion sizes.

There also seems to be no focus on keeping down weight on these units. What surprised me was some of the downright poor quality workmanship and poor materials choices on the $150K+ motorhomes. I saw plastic sinks in some and cheesey metal trim pieces and exposed screw heads in "moulded plastic" bath areas. Some of these units with multiple slideouts would be near impossible to use at all unless all the slides are out!

I found very few salesmen who new anything substantial about the actual construction & utilities. They knew all about the fabrics and colors, and of course the price!

But, to each his own! It certainly is good entertainment if you take along a list of written questions for the salesmen(and saleswomen)!!!

There ia an RV museum in Elkhart that has lots of innovative ideas for camping.

When RVing got started the idea was to make camping less work and more fun.

Stagering down the road in a back yard copy of a cheaply made garish version of a Mexican Cat house was NOT the main idea.

Today taking everything from the wedding dress and bronzed baby shoes to every momento colected in 50 years seems to be the goal.

Except,, for the little folks , that think being seen in a Big! Shiney coach does somthing for their stature.

Elkhart , for camping ideas ,
but boat shows are also great IF you look at the small stuff, not the 40+ ft.ers. Boaters have been studing storage for 5000 years and are very adept at packing a Quart into a Pint pot.

Well we went to the show, and what a waste of time. I was expecting some vendors not just factory and dealer's.

One girl was trying to sell me insurance, making a good job at it too, she asked what kind of unit I had, bus conversion. You could see her eye's sort of gaze over, $500K Prevost. LOL
Her facial expession was priceless, when I told her it was 1964 GMC.

Agree with you all. We are going to the "Dealers RV Show" in Pleasanton next weekend -- currently on, runs ten days. Mainly for entertainment and to snicker at the quality/price ratio, but also visiting friends with same bus as ours.

John, if you want to see a lot of vendors, go to one of the twice annual Good Sam or FMCA rallys. They get to various places around the country. They are great for doing an up close inspection of many items you see in the magazines. And typically you get a better price at the shows.

At the Redmond FMCA show last year I looked at various ladders and used them as I would around the bus. May of the so called great ladders were not great for me. But I found one that was.

And I had read so much about the microprocessor controlled intelligent variable speed water pumps that create less noise, no water hammer, no motor pulsing, etc., etc. The factory and a couple OEM reselers had very nice mock ups of an operational sink and shower with separate pressure and flow meters to evaluate this unit.

Using their mock up, I ran several real life scenarios and to my amazement these pumps don't perform their magic unless you are running high flow rates. Not what I need for intended full timing -- much of it in the desert. It's back to low flow pumps and accumulator tank. The show saved me time, aggravation, and money.

And typically the buses park together at these shows when you're in between bus rallys.
