I have decided to outfit my little bus with a full compliment of white faced gauges. all new stuff. I know there is a obvious difference in the voltage gauges, but i was told that all gauges accept varing voltage from 8-40 volts with no issues. does anyone know if its true? i dont want to burn the bus down due to trying to protect it... thanks shawn |

Shawn, I have not installed a lot of gauges, but many ARE voltage dependent. Most tachs I've installed were for 12 vdc only. Don't forget the lamps in the gauges. Most off the shelf products are 12 vdc. I have only three gauges that run off a 24 vdc to 12 vdc converter for the light bulbs only. The rest of my gauges are a LCD glass dash design. Try http://www.classicinstruments.net/index.phtml?catid=130 They have a great selection of gauges and styles for anyone. My three gauges are the White Hot series. Really nice looking and easy to read, day or night. Contact their tech support for help with the voltage issues. Good luck, Chuck Newman Oroville, CA |

I needed a new water temp guage and the wonderful people at Prevost put a 12v guage in and I took off. Down the road the temp was registering up around 225 or more. I called Prevost and they told me to return and I was already 1000 miles north. They said if the water temp got that high, it would shut down. I returned at a later date when I was going by and the mechanic checked and found the first mechanic put a 12v in and it should have been a 24v. Sorry it took so long to get it out. There is a difference. |
