I'm thinking about using 100 gal tank and installing 2 3" drains, 1 at the bottom, one about 1/2 way which could stay open while hooked to sewer. In theory, that will keep the black part of the tank from jamming up while not having to monitor the tank level for grey. Pros or cons?
thanks

Not a first choice.

You will be collecting a lot of solid gunk that you may never get out of the tank that way.

Better to put a diverter valve in the grey line before the tank. Like the marine valves. 1 in 2 out.

Then the black is separate.

I dont't know Dave, IMHO I think it's a great idea. The back stuff floats doesn't it ? And like Bruce says you will never have to monitor the gray. I got to give this idea some thought, but right now I'm likin it alot.

Only of you eat beans or corn. A LOT!

If you mix the grey and black then you only have black and have to dispose of it differently.

I have seen overflow taps on tanks that go to the drain line after the primary tank valve on dual valved systems or bypass lines that allow grey overflow back into the black tank.

Hmmmmm.... I dunno, It all stinks if you ask me..:-)

Drdave...black, grey, or combined, there is only one way to dispose of it now. ...JJ

Bruce. I kinda' like the idea, and in my experience with big tanks, if you open a Valterra 3 inch gate valve, the 50 gallon will gush out in about 35 seconds, and you should have no problem with build-up. Just make sure you have hose clamps on your 3 inch flex line, so they don't pop off and leave a mess where you don't want it!
Upon further reflection, there may be a downside to it, but currently I can't come up with one.
Cheers...JJ

Nah... Well...
I am rigged for macerator pump anyway and have a dedicated pipe stub just for that.
My grey is 100 gallons and black is 85 gallons.
So if I blow a hose or lose a clamp I have a mess anyway.:-):-):-)

Each tank has a 3 inch valve to a tee with the macerator port, another 3 inch valve after that. I can transfer either way or combine at the valves for macerator or dump hose.

Yeah it's kinda irrevalent as its all waste and rules is rules. :-)

If you are thinking about diverting the gray water directly to the sewer, check some of the valves used in swimming pool systems. I got one that will allow stuff straight through or by the turn of the handle will divert through another outlet. Straight through goes to the gray/black tank, other outlet goes straight to sewer. But I like the thought of a two tiered tank....hummmmm

Dale -

Are you talking about a Jandy valve, or one of the multi-port filter valves?

2" PVC & ABS used with the valve?
