I am currently completing my a/c duct work in my ceiling. The ducts are all 4"X 8" ID hard ductboard with drops at each locations, the only flex will be in the front with four drops over the windshield.

One of the things I really don't want to have to use is a standard a/c duct registers where my outlets are. I am thinking that other applications may have better choices, marine, plane , other. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I am also curious to what others have used and/or tried. And of any suppliers that you have used and where satisfied with.

What are you looking for, style, service??

Some vents are just that, and will not close

The rv stores have the square type like a car has also the round type (like for a furnace output), both able to close off the air flow.

If you are trying to hide them, then you need to design to your liking and how it may fit in to your design.

I just did a prototype with the square type from the rv store, so far am pretty happy with the result.

GOod luck with your design

The most important part of any air cond setup is the RETURN AIR.

Have you worked out that?

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the replies.

Pete-I remembered seeing those round directional vents on your coach after checking out the link you sent. I am 99.9% sure I am going with them.
Do they have a seperate flange they mount too? Or is it one piece that just screws over the hole in the duct?

Fred-I am using the ducted roof top units and the return is fixed under the unit. Of course I set it up so that the closing of a pocket door keeps an area self contained to a single unit. I am also putting a damper between my two units duct work, which will allow me to feed each others duct work incase one of the units fail.

Thanks

Cliff

They are one piece with 4 small mounting screw holes

Dometic recomends PER 13.5kbtu - 15kbtu A/C units

duct depth --> 1.25"min - 2.25"max
duct width --> 7" min - 10" max
duct length--> 15' min - 40' max
discharge registers --> 4 min - 8 max
register area --> 14sq./in per ?? mime=5" round ?
return register - 40 sq. in area

Hi Pete
I have contacted Nick Badame of Nicks Refrigeration who is doing a conversion of his own. He has installed and I plan to install Unico outlet. They are two inch openings in a 4 inch unit that looks just like low voltage lights. Very low profile, simple(no grates or shutoffs though). Nick can be emailed at dnick85@hotmail.com or telephone at 609-263-2296. Most home improvment magazines(try This Old House) have pictures of the unico system in the back to give you some idea what they look like.
Good Luck

Thanks Everybody for your thoughts and ideas.

I have decided to put in the round directional ones like I saw in Pete's coach.

I like the option of being able to direct the air where I want it or dont want it. And after all thats one of the main reasons I wanted a ducted system.
