is it possible to modify the tunnel? I sure could use another 2 inches (I think I've heard that before) of height under the tunnel for placement of my water tank. What is in the tunnel? I would be blocking the bottom from opening in the rear bay. |

What make and model? On the MCI MC-8, the lower part of the tunnel houses all the air lines, linkages, and water lines for the heater and defroster. This is in about the bottom 3 inches. Remove the access panel on the bottom of the tunnel in the baggage bays and you can see all the lines. The space above this bottom section is the AC/Heat air return. I think most makes and models have a similar arrangement. Hope this helps, Jack |

Does the tunnel also serve as a structural element? Is is okay to cut a few holes (e.g. 3" dia.)in the sides of the tunnel portion that serves as the cold air return? Dave D |

Probably could be done in the upper (air return) part of the tunnel. After drilling thru the steel, depending on where you are drillin, you may have to also drill through an aluminum liner inside the tunnel. I would use a hole saw to keep the opening round, square corners are apt to result in cracks in the steel. Hope this helps, Jack |
