I spent it at a BUS trade show?! APTA 2005 (where one day seemed like two weeks) APTA (American Public Transportation Assn.) is an organization mostly for transits and such in the public sector, but it was interesting. Who needs a PIT? Here's one for Mac My, what big fans you have You could play around in there all day without getting dirty Of interest: Detroit Diesel will continue to make parts for two strokes as long as we buy them. Two stroke parts make up about 1/3, or about $250M+, of their parts business, so we needn't worry about a thing. The MCI D4500 is the model (their lower-end product) that recently eclipsed the MC9 as the most popular coach ever, but what's interesting is how much of it is *very* similar to coaches of our vintages. (Running gear is completely different though) Those of you with 9's will recognize the similarity in some of the areas below. Real switches for real men! Um, I guess this elec panel is just a wee bit fancier than mine... PS: This is the same facility (the Dallas Convention Center) that was housing 10,000 Katrina victims just a few weeks ago. |

Great pics and post, dood. Wish I could have gone! I don't covet the busses so much (else B.V. might get jealous and refuse to run or something), but I want that lift! Gawd. Thanks, bb |

Chuck, Can the public attend this show or did you have an invite? Thinking about next year. Brian, The lifts were for sale at the FMCA show in Redmond last year. Only $35K for the four mounts. And of course, options were available. Chuck Newman Oroville, CA |

Dang. I guess I'll have to hang onto the run-up blocks and get used to life on my back down in the weeds. Sigh. |

Chuck, most conventions these days are divided into two parts; the expo, (show floor) and the 'sessions' or meetings of the professionals involved. In many cases, one can get complimentary expo passes for the floor only simply by registering. Many though, have nominal charges for the show floor, typically $25 or so. To attend the whole convention is usually several hundreds to $1,000+, depending on the event. In this case, expo-only registration was free. I think they figured the public wouldn't be interested and had no need to keep the riff-raff out. (timewasters, disinterested lookie-loos, etc.) I think it's fairly safe that I was probably the ONLY non-target-audience out of the thousands there!!! Conventions typically change locations from year to year, and I don't know in what city next years is. You could probably check their web site after this one's over and get info on next year. What's sad is that I spent all the time crawling around mechanical stuff and didn't take a single photo of all the long-legged, short-skirted models they hire to attract attention... |
