Is the 102D3/DL3/D4000/D45000 a monocoque or birdcage design? Where could I find a qualified engineer to design a slideout & roof raise? Maybe use the door area from the wheelchair lift for a slideout frame or copy this design on the street side. Any sites where it has been done on this model? Any detailed info on this model? I also plan to build a roof deck. Seems like the D will be a great shell in the near future. Lots available, S60, and the price is beginning to become reasonable. Thanks |

Try HB Industries. Call Bob Rowsell (619)561-9048. He is in El Cajon, CA just east of San Diego. He did a slideout on an mc9 that you would be hard pressed to tell there was a slideout when it was pulled in. Tell him Jojo referred you. Jojo |

All MCI except E series are not birdcage constructed. Paul Morrison specialties are installing slideout in buses and stick & staple motorhome. http://www.morrisonsvipcoach.com/ One of very few is qualified as per HWH corp. to install their slideout system to warranty. HWH’s slideout products are NOT sold over counter. They are factory install or to select few installers. Keep in mind, well engineered version is build for proper strength to stiffens & lean light-weight construction. Over build is equal to poor fuel economy & fatigue failure. Put diagonals & bridge under slideout opening. Many of over counter handicap equips lift are not installed with proper frame support. You will notice dipping somewhat along the belt-line under opening. Removed skin is part of diagonal bracing that need reconnecting to structural points. If having any one else to perform this task, make sure you did your homework. Check Better Business B for good report. Small deposit & pay as per project stage until you are satisfy of finish work. One bus builder is in court for not fulfill his promises. Has pass (1998) history of customer problems. http://www.tnonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050806/TN_NEWS/108060044 FWIW Sojourn for Christ, Jerry

Now if it were a EL3 I could help some. I had an engineer design the slide outs on mine and it is going great. if you haven't bought the shell yet you MAY want to rethink. JimH |

I do not have the shell yet, so E is a possibility, but probably too much money. Although it may save in the long run. I would appreciate any info you could send. Thanks. a.b@starband.net |

Just for your information...E series MCI coach are entirely non monocoup Stainless Steel tube framing. This is big plus to avoid rusty future. Prevost H series is the same way. Example of today price for 1 ½ x .120 inch SS tubing is about $8 per foot (was $4 in 2000). MCI E uses 1 ½” x 3 or 4” SS channel for diagonals that cost about $16 or $21 per ft. So keep in mind bus is worth about double over mild steel version. I think you can get Prevost H for less then MCI E. Prevost started production of H long before MCI E. There is more of used Prevost H to choose from. Both MCI E & Prevost H are very completive as far as quality build. Bus nuts Ace & JimH own Prevost H series. FWIW Sojourn for Christ, Jerry |
