When I turned on my dash A/C on my 2003 MH yesterday I got nothing but hot air blowing. Is there anything I can check before bringing it to the shop and paying big bucks? |

Rich, Had the same problem in my Bronco yesterday. I evacuated and recharged the system a few weeks ago and was working fine. Yesterday afternoon, no cool air at all. Got it home and found the compressor clutch is not working. Haven't checked it yet, but if your AC system has been working OK, check that the magnetic clutch on the AC compressor is working when you switch the AC on. If not, check for voltage at the plug to the compressor. If none, trace back to the dash control. Wiring diagrams help. You may have one or more relays in the system. If your coach has been sitting for awhile and the compressor works OK, you have a gas leak in the system. Chuck Newman Oroville, CA |

Check the pressure switch on the receiver/dryer, that has stopped the a/c on mine before. Also check the wiring, could be a bad wire or connection. Good luck! kyle4501 |

If the freon (R134) is low, a low pressure switch will prevent the compressor from engaging. As Kyle states, the low pressure switch will be proximal to the filter dryer assembly, if not mounted on it. The switch can be jumped (jump the plug, not the switch body) to verify function of clutch (assuming this is the problem) and to facilitate adding canned refrigerant. Be sure to remove the jumper once a normal pressure is attained. Same sort of switch in the high pressure side, but this is not likely to be causing your problem. You may have a leak and the system needs charging. If so, leak test will be in order. If jumping the low pressure switch does not engage the AC clutch when the AC control switch is on AC, you may have a bad AC relay, wiring, fuse, AC control switch, ...ad infinitum. |

Richard - "When I turned on my dash A/C on my 2003 MH yesterday I got nothing but hot air blowing. Is there anything I can check before bringing it to the shop and paying big bucks?" The simple things first? If the heater/ac controls are operated by vacuum (as both of my last rvs and present vehicles), you should insure the controls are working. The defroster usually dumps in hot air even if the a/c control is on.... A cracked vacuum line or faulty/leaking dash control, will do it every time. I just found out on our Caravan, that if the radiator fan isn't functioning properly, the a/c will blow hot air. Damned computers, anyway #%$&*# ! I just put in a new fan motor, and the a/c is cooling once more! |

Connect a service gauge set to determine pressure in the system. If it low, & the low pressure switch is working it will protect the compressor by not letting it come on. kyle4501 |
