Use the same material in your rivets as the skin you are riveting (eg: SST skins use SST rivets, aluminum skins use aluminum rivets). If you use dissimilar metals, you will learn a lot about electrolysis, in a BAD way...........Electrolysis is the negative, corrosive, reaction between dissimilar metals. Induced & amplified by electricity (Batteries). I usually tell people to NOT use a corrosive metal on a bus (Steel, galvanized, etc..). I have heard the stories of a $10,000 paint job that is "bubbling up" with corrosion just a few years after getting the paint job done. Stainless steel & aluminum do hold up better, with less prep worries. Sika Flex is also instrumental in minimizing electrolysis. Rich 800-468-5287 |
