I have an MC9 with the 8v71. I see 15-40wt oil for sale everywhere, but my manual states use 40wt. Is it a problem to use the more common oil or should I search harder for straight 40wt? Thanks, Kevin |

Single weight only, API CF-2, meeting Detroit Diesel specs. Multi-grade oil is not suitable for an 8V-71. Excessive oil consumption will result from using multi-grade oil , with possible premature engine failure. Dave D |

Try NAPA they can order the 40wt oil for you. I use Rotella-T 40wt and they have always ordered it for me. |

Two popular correct DD 2 stroke oils are Rotella 40wt (NOT 15W40 which is everywhere), and Delo 100. DD recommends using 40wt oil as long as you can start the coach. Most folk don't use a coach when the weather's so cold that you cannot start a DD when the block heater is used. The oil may have to be ordered. I get Rotella by asking for it from the distributor. Due to a miscommunication with the distributor, and the fact that a case has 6 gallons and not 4, I've got a lifetime supply of Rotella 40...11 cases still. May be a benefit now with all with the recent price increases...I got free freight too. Don't put multi-viscosity oil in your 2 stroke...or as DaveD says, you'll be engine shopping. |
