Hi Karl,

Thank you for your kind words about the message board. Please feel free to look at the over 100 other pages on this web site, too.

As far as the Skyliner you are searching for, why not just buy one in the US. There should be some available and one comapny that comes to mind who might sell one to you is ABC Companies in Minnesota. Check the internet search engines for Neoplan bus sales.

Ian thank you for your quick response.
Busses in Germany have to pass a once a year a very picky Inspection. The are in good shape even the older one's,and the are less expensiv.I could not locate one here on the Internet.Go to;www.mobile.de(click:LKW&NUTZFAHRZEUGE SUCHEN.)

__. I imported a double decker bus from England about a year ago. Mine was over 25 years old so it was exempt from FMVSS (safety) and EPA (air pollution) requirements. I arranged shipping over the internet--it went on a ship mostly given over to French cars; going from Southampton, England to Le Havre on three French islands in the Caribbean, then to Puerto Rico and Jacksonville.

__. I knew a lot more about importing the bus than the Customs official did -- he didn't know how to allocate the category and tried to impose a duty of 25% (as a "vehicle for the transport of goods) versus 2.5% (as a "vehicle for the transport of persons). We had a quite long discussion on this subject, when he finally agreed that a bus is a "vehicle for the transport of persons" (duhhh!!!).

__. If I had to do it again, I'd buy one already in the US (importing from Canada is supposed to be easier since NAFTA but I'm not sure that it's actually working that way).

__. I did an Internet search for every shipping company/Customs broker in Southampton England. They got the best quote for shipping, plus port fees, taxes, etc. I sent about 30 emails and got about 12 companies who said that they'd like to give me a quote -- I was told to take the "next to the cheapest" but I actually went with the lowest quote. It was lower by a lot. England to Baltimore was about $6000, then I had to pay about $170 in US Customs duty and about $60 in US port fees.

__. I chose Southampton because it was near where the bus that I'd purchased was stored, the seller had agreed to deliver it there.
