If running low oil pressure is the problem and a top end rebuild is the answer how far down would a fella say the top end goes? i.e. I'm gunna have to pull the head back off this beast aren't I. 6-71 |

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems to me that, if you have low oil pressure, then the bottom end is more likely than the top end to be the problem. |

A dense oil filter can greatly lower the oil pressure..... As well as a poor oil choice. |

Runnin rotella as for the filter at the moment it's the only one I can use I can't find a conversion to swap over to spin ons so the old sock style is all I can get. And fellas easy on the choice of oil I've got a truck thats run 235,000 and never a bit of trouble, had a 302 that ran on it for 225,000 when I sold it it was running fine, Dads got a cummings with about 220,000 running fine as well. |

Can't compare a DD 2 stroke to much else, it likes straight 40 cl2 and clean filters. |

nick you are not using the right oiland it looks like you need a bottom end rebuild as well which means that a complete rebuild is in order. you are comparing apples as to ornges,as a DD is not a cat or acummings and if you use their type of oil you are in for Big trouble and yes using the right oil will give you 300,000 easie if driven properly. |

What do you consider low oil pressure? It is much different for a DD two stroke and all other makes. 5 psi at idle hot is not uncommon. Get the correct oil in there and it should help some. Does the engine smoke while operating at highway speeds? When my 6-71 needed overhaul it was hard to start and issued quite a bit of blue smoke while driving. Richard |

lots of white smoke when cold but very little once she's warm just a little black when I get in it. I looked in Da book it said 25 when warm at speed and 4 at idle warm so I guess I'm doing good. |
