Have lubed every thing that can be and door still hard to open and close. I am wondering if the spring needs to be tightened and how much tension should be applied.

Is it hard by hand on the door or only by the crank?

You might disconnect the drop-down step and/or the hand crank and see if it gets easier.

Since it hard both opening and closing I would not suspect the spring.

If it's hard to open with the step engaged and not without it take your front licence plate bracket off (the whole thing) and look behind the right head lights. Thats where the spring is to help with the step. Mine was broken when I got the bus so I brazed it back together. Works pretty well but it's still harder to open and close than without the step hooked up. I keep my step disengaged at the handle unless I'm on a slop or it windy so I don't have to mess with it.
I assume you know the lifing up on the handle either engages or disengages the step and the oposite does the other.
Also I found the more I used mine after it sat for three years the better it got. There's a bunch of places you can't get at very handy on the step to lube very well.

thanks I believe it's like the parking brake that we had to work and spray with every lubricant we could find to free up. Dust, rust , and age have caught up with it.

I have a problem on my 4104 except there is no step and the problem is only on opening.

It sticks as if the gasket is holding the door, there is no problem closing it. I can't open it with the handle on the inside, I have to bump it with my butt. There is a large handle added to the outside which I have to pull VERY hard to open the door. I've used every silicone spray and grease known to mankind and nothing works.

I ordered new gaskets from Rich at International Bus Parts and will replace the old gaskets even though they look almost new. Hope this solves my problem.

Your's sounds mechanical but thought I'd throw this into the discussion. Will let you know how the new gaskets work.
