What size Vanner comes in the mc9, and how much would be a fair price to pay for a used one?
Not really sure of my needs yet. What size Vanner are you using?
Thanks

I have a Vanner 65-60 that was installed 3 years ago. I can tell you the cost and install was over 500 dollars. I am just about ready to install a IOTA 24 volt 25 amp battery charger as well. Cost 240 dollars.

IIRC, the MC-9 has a 20 amp equalizer. It is intended only for the headlamps and possibly the dash radio or other small accessories.

My used/reconditioned Vanner cost me about $400 in May of last year. Don't remember its model, but think it was a 60Amp or so.

My ex-NJT has a 50 amp Vanner. Looks as though they come in all shapes and sizes.
There is a label on the thing with all the details. $400-$500 seems to be the going price for a replacement.

I purchased a new 80 amp Vanner on eBay back in July for $149 + $20 shipping. It's model 66-80. There's a new model 60-100E listed now for $199, which sounds like a good deal too.

Just for informational purpose. The inverter on an MCI from the factory is for bus chassis equipment use, it is not intended for house use. That MCI installed inverter is probably either 10 or 20 amps depending upon year. If you are refering to house use such as TV,Toaster,Stereo, etc., you need to install another inverter. Depending upon type and kinds of house equipment a minimum capacity would be 60 amps. Thanks, DrEd.

Bruce

Is your coach an old NJT coach? If so, that 50 amp vanner was intended to handle some larger 12V loads going like a farebox (5 amps) and a radio (up to 25 amps intermittant load) as well as some other 12V loads. The 50 amp was typical CYA design.

An added note, Vanner makes both 12-24 V equalizers and convertors. Be sure you have the one you need. They are designed for different things.

Dale just covered an important point. My 50 amp Vanner is not an inverter, it's an equilizer. It maintains battery voltage balance between batteries, preventing uneven charging and discharging, thus adding to battery life.
An equalizer doesn't "run" anything. It allows a 12V tap from one battery (battery nearest ground) for headlights, farebox, gas fridge, and such 12V loads to be used without low rear battery problems. An inverter typically supplies a different voltage from a source...24VDC to 110V AC. There are voltage reduction devices that make 12V from 24V also. Have to watch the load capacity of the reducers.
