Sean, it seems like either one is missing a whole lot of things you'd want in an RV genset: voltage regulation, radiator (on the water cooled one), decent muffler, etc. These are suited for stationary, standby use at best. A $2500 boat anchor at worst. If you want a diesel, get one made for RV use. Wrico would be the best turn-key. There's other fine RV and marine gennys, though. Get one with an Isuzu or Kubota engine, preferably. If that's out of your league, get the gas Honda water-cooled genset. If that's too much, an inverter-based Yamaha for smallish loads is nice and quiet and portable. If that's too much, get an old gas Onan (pref. RV 1,800rpm) and save your pennies for a real diesel. Whatever you do, avoid "Gener-wrecks" and Chinese air-cooled junk like the plague. Most of the China Diesel engines are so noisy that you can hear them a block away. They are also very very heavy. I have a changfa and wouldn't even begin to even think about putting it into a conversion. Find a 3-cyl Kubota engine and put an 1800 rpm gen head on it. I got one for $600 from a newspaper ad. D722 in good shape. Then find an 1800 rpm head and couple it up. Otherwise look at the truck salvage places as they do get burned motorhomes where everything below the floor is fine and gensets usually survive and sell cheap...If you don't mind getting dirty. |

Hi Sean, The $1495 model is an aircooled Yanmar Clone. The engine block was made in China for export. The guts of the engine (bearings, rods etc.) were bought from Japan. The engine was assembled in China and shipped to the US where the altenator and external engine parts were added. I have a very large (by rv standards) solar array and battery bank. I bought one of these as a backup battery charger. At this very moment the power is out here and I'm running the house off my bus and the generator is running in the background. Normally I wouldn't be running the generator but I can see that there will be no sun for a while. I have about 50 hours on this generator and so far I like it a lot. If I needed a boondocking generator and had the money I would Buy something else because It is LOUD.. If I didn't have the money I would love this generator for the price. It is Quality and Works Great. Good Luck Jerry |
