I am helping a Widow sell her Neoplan. The problem I am having is in the shifting. It has a keypad shifter and the DO NOT SHIFT lite stays on. Does any one know how to solve this problem? Or what causes the problem?

on our buses, the most likely cause of a do not shift light is either a overheat condition, or low fluid. that what happens on our transits at work. also, check all the connections.

Does that tranny show error codes on it? If its smart enought to shut down, it may be smart enough to tell you why.

If there are any errors in mine, the B500 world tranny shows the last 5 error codes by pressing the upshift and downshift errors at the same time. Or I guess maybe it might take a reader.

If this is Chip Maxwell's bus, he bought a Pro Link reader before his untimely death. I don't think he got around to buying the cards that would read the codes, but he might have. It is worth looking into.

If he did, you could hook it up and check the codes, or use the method that Jim Stewart suggests.

Not trying to be a wise a**, but some simple things first,

Is it completely aired up?

Is the brake engaged when you attempt the shift?

Have you tried cold starting the ATEC (assuming it is an ATEC) by disconnecting the power for 2 minutes then reconnecting it?

Its worth a try????????

Yes Jim it is Maxwells' coach but he did not buy the reader for the Neoplan.

I AM A neoplan owner and the only reason that light comes on is air pressure either the sensor is shot or there is not enough air

I must respectfully disagree with TVDAD.

On my Neoplan, the light comes on under quite a number of circumstances. For example, the light will be on if the coach is started from the rear (engine compartment) switches instead of the front. It is also on when the ignition is on but the engine is not running (even if already aired up).

I think Chip had a 748, just like mine. This is an ATEC unit. The Pro-Link reader for the Detroit won't tell you anything about the tranny, but there is an Allison module that will.

There should also be a "Check Transmission" light on the dash. Make sure that light goes on with the ignition switch, then goes out when the engine starts. That would indicate that the transmission itself is otherwise healthy (i.e. no codes), and the DNS light is coming from an external source, such as an air pressure sender.

If the Check light statys on, then I can tell you how to get the codes out without a reader.

My appologies I agree with Sean and I made a bad assumption. But if it is stared from the front the only time is when it is airing up. Once it reaches a pressure where it will stop it should go out.

We had that problem on an MCI, and other querky problems, that were all solved when we replaced all the corroded grounds in the electrical bay by wiring them to a big aluminum plate with stainless screws.
