When ordering generator vibration isolators is the Max. Compression load figured by dividing the generator weight (500lbs) by 4 mounts? The other questions is shear strength, how much should I be looking at? The genny is an Izuzu 3 cyl desiel, weight just over 480lbs. This on-line company has the largest slection I've seen, and pricing is good. https://sdp-si.com/eStore/ Bob V. |

If you can, it's always better to use the round type that have a bolt going all the way thru, so if things get hairy the mounts won't be able to shear off and let the genset loose. I use this type from McMaster. Yes, divide the weight by the number of mounts... "Neoprene All-Direction Center-Bolt-Through Mounts" http://www.mcmaster.com/ P/N 6309K34 page 1222 $6.83ea Also pretty nifty but expensive are "Stainless Steel Wire Rope Mounts" P/N 62225K5 page 1224 |

Again, yes, you divide the weight by the number of mounts. Usually a vehicle of the size of a bus will not pull more than 1G, so you will probably be able to get away with a shear strenght of 50-75% of the weigth supported by the mount. Another suggested product would be these mounts at Grainger, that include the bolt through and a snubber washer for the other side of the mounting (supporting) surface. The reason you won't want to use the standard Genny mounts is that they are not built to control the equipment on the rebound vibrations (like when you hit a speed bump - you don't want a basement genny to punch through your floor...) For real QUIET , the latest in boats is to mount the genset on a weighted rectangle , and mount the rectangle on isolation mounts too. The current "quiet" setup usres weights of 10% of the gen weight in each corner, adding 40% to the installed gen set weight, plus the rectangle. Uncle is doing this on all the high bucks fisheries survey boats (noise bothers the fish , screwing up the population count). If weight is no problem for your camper this could be a great addition to smooth the vibrations & noise you suffer with genset operation.. FAST FRED |

Has anyone ever set up a generator to hang from cables or springs? You'd need some way to secure it from swinging around when underway. |
