I noticed a long time ago that the headers above my baggage compartments were in bad shape from rusting! I had new metal fabricated and i started replacing the headers. I then noticed the vertical pieces on the baggage compartments were in just as bad shape, i started replacing those, then i had a brain fade and thought to myself why not pull the baggage compartment floors up and inspect those, I'm glad i did! I've been in the process the last week of replacing the cross pieces that run from side to side in all four bays, this has been a chore, but i believe, i'm doing the right thing, I do plan on keeping this for awhile when i get finished! My bus is a 82 Prevost LeMirage, most of the rust that i've seen was caused by air conditioning lines that were routed by the factory, anyplace those were close the steel chassis was ruined my moisture and those lines sweating. i have some photos on my bus conversion site, if you would like to look. To anyone else those are great places to look when your buying a bus! It's not fun work but i'm still enjoying it, if you can't do the work youself if could get very expensive! http://prevostlemirage.blogspot.com/

Hi Pat
The pics are awesome, especially the new dash. Looks like VIP???? Makes me feel bad in that I haven't done as much tear out on my 91 and I am still further behind than you even though we started about the sametime!!!

Hi Pat,

Wow, nice work ! I had no idea that I was held in a position of respect by anybody in this community. I then noticed the comment at the bottom of your web page and hoped that it was me that you were talking about (along with Craig "Gumpy"). I'm still not sure if it was me that you are talking about there, but if it is I feel honored that you mentioned me. I promise to try to "give back" to the community that has helped me realize my dream of converting a bus.

Thanks for sharing.

Pat?

re:
"After much researching , I couldn't help myself any longer, I
purchased my bus from a couple of really good guys near Pittsburg! "

After seeing the rust and realizing that most "good guys" wouldn't
stick it to an unsuspecting individual like that, do you really
continue to feel they're "good guys"? I admire your forgiveness!

Ron thanks for the encouragement. Rob thanks i have the time i did take a medical retirement, at times i think i'm futher behind than i am. Tim, yes you and Gumpy with those awesome sites, with the excellant pictures and detail really made it an endeavor worthwhile and thanks again! Now John MC9, coming into my second year of my conversion, and just about 2 years of dreaming and reading about buses, i don't believe forgiveness had a thing to do with it, like many busnuts as good as we may think we are there are always surprizes! These buses are 20 + years. I did understand, and expect there were problems to be found, and before i'm finished i could find several more, but i will find and correct them! To have to find blame just to feel good is a sad way to go through life, and i refuse to be that way, its like that fork in the road, its my choice which way i go! Life is full of choices. John happy bussing to you!:-)

Ditto "DM", Pat! Great attitude!

I bought a 40' bag of headaches from a minister. Who am -I-, not to forgive? Life goes on...

Pat,

Really great looking bus and van. Did you do the paint job on both.

You've inspired us since we want to have our van match the bus. Did you do a conversion inside the van also. If so, do you have some photos of the conversion process and the finished product.

You have motiviated us to get to work again.

Chuck, I'm sorry that isn't my bus, I should have made that clearer! I've had several non bus types ask what my bus would look like when its finished, so I posted that picture to give them an ideal of where i was headed, in my opinion that is an awesome looking bus, I collected that a long time ago from the internet and I have no idea who it belongs to. I have collected thousands of bus pictures over the last 3 years of all types. Maybe i should remove that photo, from my site, I know I don't have permission to use it, but I was just using it as an example. Sorry about the confusion Chuck!
