the air powered shut off on my bus 4905 wont release to start the engine. I had to diconect the air hose and clamp it off to get it running.
figure its the relay but how do I test it to find out? leaving for Tenn. tomorrow. I now have to shut it off by holding brake and letting out clutch.

Hi Ron & Folks:

Ron, stalling the coach with the clutch could result in any of a bunch of costly repairs. Don't do it!!!!!!

Go back to the cylinder, where you disconnected the air line. It was attached to a shrader valve with a piston that hits a curved lever on top of you governor.

When you cut off the air, it allowed that curved lever to go towards the front of the coach, which allows fuel to get to the injectors, so the coach starts.

To shut off the engine, go back to the engine compartment, pull that curved lever towards the back bumber and coach will shut off!!!!! No damage to the clutch, drive line, crankshaft etc.

That shrader valve is controlled by a skinner valve on the engine bulkhead. If you follow the air line you disconnected you will come to the valve. It is an electric over air valve. Make sure you have power to it and through it. If you need help my toll free number is: 1-888-262-2434.

I Hope this HELPS!!!

Happy & SAFE!! Bussin' to ALL>

Mine done that a time or two also. As I recall, there is a skinner valve just above the cutoff cylinder that controls it, you can trace the air tubing to it to find the right one. After smacking it with a pair of pliers, it went to the shut off OK. Probably caused by sitting too much I thought, it never did it again.
You can also check real easy with a test light to make sure the skinner is getting juice from the relay.
