Looking for some "Seminar Volunteers" to pick a subject & do a seminar at the rally. I know there will be a huge wealth of bus knowledge in Arcadia, FL at Jack Conrad's bus rally this Dec. *Any subject you feel comfortable with. *Wife & "off Bus topics" welcome *You don't have to know it all, just be willing to share. (God knows in my seminars I don't know it all). *Open forums - does not have to be a classroom setting. Rich, I just want to make sure that the existing offers for seminars are recorded. I have been corresponding with Jack and have offered to do two seminars (motorhome fires – prevention, detection and suppression and motorhome alarm systems – both based on articles I wrote for Bus Conversion Magazine). Pat has offered to do a seminar for the ladies on rubber stamped greeting cards. If this offer got lost, will you let me know and I will re-submit the documentation. I had offered to help however I can, but being a vendor limits my resources a bit. I am sure that someone will let me know what I can do to help with this great rally. Rich, I am planning to be there for my fist real bus rally, I am quite excited and anxious to do two seminars at the Arcadia, rally. (1) One seminar will be the the introducton of my CD, ("Inspection & Repair Guide for Bus Conversions") which has 220 pages of text with illustrations, a pictorial file included with nearly (1200) pictures documented for the past 3 years on my personal repairs of my 1973 Model 05 Eagle. Many of you know me as Gary, owner of the "Rustless Money Pit". I have a web site that is running but I am having a tech problem with page #5, so please do not try to use this site to order my CD at this time. I am very disatisfied with the last page and do not want any glitches to you the buyer to use the (Pay Pal) button to purchase. Don't take this the wrong way but I think the rally has gotten far away from the ORIGINAL plan of being NON commercialized. It used to be a personal, get to know and see what others have done and where they intend to go with their hobby type rally. Now's it's more like, park it, eat, listen to all the commercial vendors selling thier wares and see you next year...maybe! What happend? Don't get me wrong! I'll be there having as much fun as I can because it gives me a chance to see ole friends that I don't get to see much and get away from the everyday stress that living sometimes brings but, somewhere, sometime we need to think about why are even having a rally. Is it to see what new toys there are or is it to see what our fellow bus conversionalist have done? I say bring back the old days when we took tours of each and every coach and met those that did the handy work. Bring back the good cooking while we sat around the camp fire and chewed the fat while chatting or is it chatting while we chewed the fat? Bring back being able to see New Years come in with friends instead of everyone being wore out from the days event that they went to bed early! Anyway, I'm just lettin off steam! Never been to a rally, and wish I could be in FL in Dec, but many things preclude such a trip (not the least of which is the very expensive fuel just now) but, I understand where you are coming from Ace and while I personally agree with you, I guess times are a changin' and the wise change with them  . Ian, as you requested I have changed your web site link address to what you wanted. I do not mind changing the write up also in my links for you to be as you would like, just let me know in email any changes you would like. I am new to all this and man I been busy. I am just appreciative of the opportunity to do these things on the net and have support of the administration in doing so in passing on informaton for our bus nut friends. I would also like to address the above posting from (H3-40) looking at my point of view. This is my first bus rally to attend, I am so looking forward to those beauties and the workmanship put in them all. I want to get ideas that only the indivudals come up with and none of these ideas are commercialized. I too look forward to sitting near a fire and bussin it up and all. I will go to some other seminars but not all, that is my choice. I am always thirsty for knowledge and anything to make my bus safer in my conversion process. One of the reasons I can't wait to go to Arcadia for the bus rally is to look forward to meeting and attending Jim Shepherd's seminars on his safety products for buses and motor homes I never would of known about if it wasn't for the Internet and bb's like BNO. Now when I go to Arcadia this year I will be able to get the real skinny on the new stuff for my bus to consider installing and using. There is so much out there we are not aware of but we are doing better because of these informative bb's announcing things to be presented, and explained or demonstrated. I do not expect everyone to attend my seminars, but those that know of my project the past 3 years that have conversed with me off and on about it will probably be interested in the on hands information I offer. I would of given anything to have the information I offer you in Arcadia, to have had it 3 years ago. I would not have had the awfull mess I did have, but am fixing and hope to prevent someone els from experiencing. Knowledge is Power. I am talking only for my self now as a vendor going to arcadia. I hope I can help one Eagle bus owner or any kind of bus owner with my information for the price I ask for this 3 years of documentation I have done. I will be happy to know I prevented them with information on my pre-sale bus inspection guide from making the same mistakes in a bus purchase I made or have helped a present bus owner with a real undercarriage problem expected in some of these older buses, then I will walk away from Arcadia a very proud vendor. I just hope some of you will invite me and my wife over for a hot dog or drink or something while there just to make more new bus nut friends and maybe mention that my information is something they would never have known if it wasn't for the seminars at the bus rally's. Who ever (H3-40) really is I hope you come over to my seminar and introduce yourself with your real name and then after listening to my speel about my product let me know if you got information you never would of any other place than a "Bus Rally". Being a vendor is no treat to us either. just how much money do you think we will make with our products and in my case my CD's. It probably will not pay my hotel room for coming down as my bus is still not roadworthy because of information I did not have 3 years ago. I hope I have information to help you on your bus that you never thought of. Be sure to look me up, I will only have your post name (H3-40) to refer to when we meet. You do not have to attend our seminars for any reason, I am sure that Jack will have literature telling of the seminars being held to see if you are even interested in any of them. Protecting and upgrading our older buses just cannot be overlooked much longer and lots of us vendors offer information and products to make them safer, and products to protect that "dream bus" investment to last many, many more years. Hey H3-40 I've been to 2 Jack's Rallies (2003 and 2004) - In fact I was the first ever RTS there in 2004 I don't remember anyone holding a gun to my head to attend a vender's presentation. You and anybody who comes will be free to do damn near whatever you want - when you want - stay with friend - visit other coaches - whatever I LOVE the fact that more and more venders will be represented - selling and displaying there wares - That's one of the reason I go and plan to go to the 2006 rally (God willing and fuel prices reasonable) I'm believe there are many like me - that want to see other conversions - put faces to the names on this board - show off my own creation - brag and lie a bit about what I've done - but I also want to see and hear the vender - I just see the ones I'm interested in and skip the ones I'm not so - H3-40 - "DON'T RAIN ON JACK's PARADE" - he's doing a super job - I hope he keeps on doing it And - OH yea - I've been and will be again - a vender and a hobbyest bus converter - at Bussin 2006 - I'll be selling my "Campsite Leveling override sysytems - Rostra Cruise Controls - and other items I've designed or accumulated over the last 2 years - so perhaps you should make it your bussiness to "AVOID" this commercial vender at the rally Pete RTS/Daytona | ||

Hey guys I didn't mean for this to turn into a fighting match! I merely said I wished it (the rally) was like it used to be when it first started. In fact it was I that came up with the original idea to have this rally, believe that or not and I am glad that Jack took my idea and ran with it. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't be having what we have today. What has changed from the first year or two is that it has grown to such enormous numbers that it isn't what it was meant to be which was how I described the first few years. If you want to use this rally or any other rally to promote your products then so be it. I can not and won't even try to change that but as I said, it has somewhat outgrown what it was originally planned to be! Oh and Pete, I was there to lend a hand when and if needed when you almost didn't make it home from an electrical problem you had so don't go getting bent out of shape over MY opinion! I'm not in any way trying to rain on Jacks party and he knows that, as he and I know each other VERY well. All I was trying to say is, compared to when it first started, it has changed drastically and there weren't any vendors then! It was a fun, very informative, party New Years Party so to speak and we met EVERYONE that was there and saw EVERY bus IN and OUT whereas now, were lucky to see the people we already know! As for avoiding YOUR vending area? OK, I can do that too! You guys make this post out to be something other than what it is! Geez... | ||

Ace, In Navy parlance, you're a "plank owner" having attended the first, Bussn' 2000. As far as I recall from attending 3 of Jack's rallies, everyone is free to do exactly as you stated and wished. As the Bussn' event gets bigger and more complex if simply offers more CHOICES to those who attend. Were you commenting on the fact of change or really lamenting the fact that the increase in size prevents you from meeting everyone, all those great people, one-on-one as you did with our small (but freezing) group back in 2000? | ||

I was commenting about the size it has grown to and NOT trying at all to sound dis-respectful to ANYONE for ANYTHING. I merely commented on the fact that commercial vending at THIS event is NOT what it started out to be back when it first was conceived and put together at the rodeo grounds and others I have talked to the last couple of years have also mentioned it hasn't been as fun for them as it was when it was on a smaller scale. Let's face it! It's a lot better when 50-75 people sit and have dinner around a camp fire, or such, then to sit with 300 in one building! Hell the noise alone ruins the atmosphere of being away from home to enjoy the outdoors! Your right! EVERYONE can do as THEY please when attending these rallies and the larger it gets, the more there is to do but is that what everyone really wants to do? It's kind of like planning a trip to Disney on a Saturday and have to be back home on Sunday! You never see it all so why bother! To put an end to this, Sorry to all those that took offense to MY (and others) opinion but the facts are the facts! If you weren't there from the beginning to now, then you wouldn't know how different it really has become. Again I want to say, I will be there regardless and I NEVER meant ANYTHING towards Jack or what he has done! I commend him all the way with continued success! To me, smaller is better and more fun for EVERYONE and remember, that's MY opinion, and I'm sticking to it! I AM entitled to that much! | ||

ACE, This is Gary, I publicaly apologize to you for assuming you were attacking us vendors that would want to be at Arcadia this December for the bus Rally. I did not realize that you were poster (H3-40) above. You and I have conversed via email several times and I send you pictures of my progress on the "Rustless Money Pit" and you have always been very respectful and appreciative of our email contact with each other. I told Ian Griffin several times I have to take a deep breath when reading some posts (And I Don't) if I feel it pertains to me in particular. I got to work on that Ian, I,m trying here today. I do see your desire to keep things as they once were just 5-6 years ago. The whole world has opened up to us now with the Internet and even 5-6 years ago did you know Jim Shepherd or any of the other bus suppliers or vendors of our spare parts and equipment? Maybe Jim shepherd was not in the Bus / RV safety merchandise business then, but we all know him now because of the Internet and his seminars at bus rally's like at Arcadia, thanks to those like Jack Conrad that arrange these bus nut fellowship meets we now have availiable. Now we know there is thousands of us like us out there just thursting for knowledge of what to do to our buses, how to fix and just to show them off on the internet via web pages etc. I guess that is part of progress but I like to think of it as part of a new world opening up to us called (Knowledge). I know there will be others there that will have merchandise I do not need but maybe to pass a few hours of the day I can get more ideas and information that not one of us probaly knew was available 5-6 years ago. Just ask (Rich, at International Bus & parts) the power of this internet in the past 6 years has done for and to his business. I am sure Jack is not going to let us vendors manipulate the whole day with vending sellers promoting all day long, I don't know Jack personally yet but bet he too wants everyone to fellowship like you want to happen most of the day also and I can be he will make sure of it. Now that I do know who you are I hope you will still consider me a friend on the net and when we meet at the bus rally's like I want to meet all the regulars on the bb's as well. I have alot to learn for sure, I am still learning more at 60 years old than most of my earlier years. Now to make light of everything we have been discussing here on this entire post, I will tell you something I am sure will make you laugh at me and if it takes away from any serious subjects I have to tell you what has happend to me. For the past 37 days total, nearly 8-12 hours every single day I have been in front of my computer like I am now trying to create my web page, (www.busconverter101.com). I never did a project like that before, the extent of my computer work was writing text messages etc, emails. But for 37 days I have been fighting this web writing program to make it do what I wanted it to do and It won. But I announced earler yesterday that page #5 of my web site was messed up, come to find out it was a (Program Error) that even the tech did not figure out even yet. I fixed the problem by rewriting the entire page again up to 3 am last night. The web site is now proper, I am proud of it and will send to the vendor during their (work hours) next week what I, little ole me, found wrong with their program. This determination can put a lot of stress on the ole 60 year old mind and heart but I done it!! 37 days, just think about it. This is so that I can present information I hope will just help others to never get in the position I did three years ago, or at least a few of them. Keep in contact with me ACE when you can, and I look forward to having that hot dog with you when we sit down and take a breath in Arcadia. Well, my opinion (with no dis-respect to Ace) is that bigger is better. I was also fortunate enough to attend the first few rallies and quite truthfully I was bored out of my gourd the first couple of ones. Not bored by the company, but as I recall there was only about a dozen coaches the first rally and it was too cold to sit out by the fire and shoot the BS. The second was a little better with a few more coaches but still nothing to occupy a lot of hours time. The move to Horizon was a great improvement with many more coaches, a good meeting hall and a few vendors to talk to. In my opinion (for whats its worth) several of the more non-commercial vendors, like those planning on attending would be welcome. For many it is a chance to see the latest or newest goodies and it tends to attract more coaches which means more coaches to inspect and more owners to talk to. To me, the Horizon rally was a much better rally. It takes lots of things to make a good rally that everyone enjoys and one of those things is more coaches. Maybe someone should bring one self back to Florida so he can lay under a waste tank and inspect the leak that ISN'T there and enjoy the ONLY seminar that everyone likes to talk about on this BB which should get an award for the longest discussed topic! And as Marc would probably say... If one WAS to lay UNDER a waste tank, he surely wouldn't get "IN" S**T unless of course it had already leaked in which this case it hasn't! Hi Folks, Just a couple thoughts! I attended last years rally as a first time attender and I really enjoyed myself, but one thing that would help the experience is that every coach have a sign(say 8x11) sheet of paper on the front of the coach with the owners name, BNO name, if different, etc.. and maybe some designator that they are willing to give a tour, show off a specific feature. When there's that many coaches it would be nice to know who wants to show there rig and who doesn't. Plus their was alot of people who I wanted to meet, but without name tags(use them) or the like I probably walked past them a dozen times and never had a chance to say hi. I could have easily spent the whole time looking at coaches or eating Kettle Corn.(ACE-bring some) See you there. Cliff | ||

Cliff has a good point and thanks to early sponsers of Jacks Bussin new Years Blast we got hand outs with that sheet in it along with other goodies. Ace fondly remembers the good old days... We too were at the first 4, couldent make last year and probably not this year, but they just get bigger and better. We all miss the local corner store, but usually prefer to go to the larger places, more choices,excitment, things to see and do. Ok Guys I will be parked at the front gate again this year, and I dont attend , any seminars, (too busy or I would), but as for the music I normally dont go, so if your are fellin lost, (or if susan throws you out, you will always be welcome under my awning,) Marc you too infact no one has ever been made to feel unwanted,As for vendors, the more the better, Of course I normally am one ..BUT not at this rally, I have been there since day one and hope to be there for many more, I do think this rally will hold size for 2 more years then expand to the largest bus rally in the east, with several vendors, Marc and Ace have paid there dues as well as Richard, we almost froze to death the first couple years, Take care all and Brenda and I hope to see ya all in arcadia. We just got home last night from the SE BusNuts rally in Hoboken, Ga. A little cool but we had a great time. Attendence was down about 20% (probably due to fuel prices and in a couple cases because of illness). I have read through all the post on this thread and want to make a few comments. First, whether you have attended all the Bussin' rallies or only one, participant or vendor, you are are just as important to the success of the Bussin' rallies. We put a 8 1/2" X 11" paper in the goody bag that we give to each coach. We ask that they fill this out (Bus Make, Model, Year, Name, "Internet Name", and where they are from) and place it in the windshield of their coach. Most do, but some choose not to. We also strongly encourage everyone to wear a name tag, making this mandatory at meals. Once again most do wear them, but some choose not to wear them except at meals. After each rally, we look at the feedback questionaires to see what people liked, disliked, and what they want to see. The next rally is based on this. We know we will never please everyone, but we try to have something of interest for everyone. Each person can decide which things they want to participate in. We look for vendors that have products (bus related & non bus related)that will be of interest to those attending and not available locally. KETTLE CORN WOULD BE GOOD!! When the vendors do give a seminar, yes they are promoting their product, but they also provide information on the seminar subject. I agree with Ace, that the first 2 rallies were much more of a "family atmosphere". As the rally has grown, we have lost that, however, to maintain that "family atmosphere" last year, I would have had to tell 60% of those that attended "Sorry, you cannot attend Bussin' 2005 because it will be too big".. I will never tell a busnut or potential busnut that they cannot attend a Bussin' rally. Richard Ace was at the original Bussn' 2000 with his Eagle(?), along with FF and Bob Sheaves and a bunch more. (Small in number, high in quality!) IIRC, I heard secondhand that FF made a comment about the Eagle's tag axle or something. Ace, not familiar with FF's ascerbic wit, mis-interpreted it and wasn't in the mood to listen to explanations. The rest of "that" history has played out on the BB's! Take the wit and sensitivity out of the equation and I think they'd have alot to discuss. Both are creative in "re-cycling" things into conversions, but FF is a minimalist, function reigns supreme over form (although the stock 4106 is a pretty nice "form" to begin with). Ace claimed it was parked in the the only hole in a flat field. What started the friction many years ago was a long rant from ace that I was a bad person for not wanting to donate a coach to the homosexual "Circus Boy" who was then claiming to be disabled. At that time in the Mac board there were endless missives from preachers " Wanted for FREE your donation of a 3 year old or less conversion to go Gods work" CB decided that someone could be duped into giving him a free coach . My comment that working was more rewarding than begging set ace off . Guess he sees he world really differently than I do. No problem , that's his way. For folks gettin into coach camping , the variety if PROVEN concepts that can be seen at Jacks is far better than at a Bus Bash or regonal rally. That is because almost everyone will open their coach to passing folks , and give a tour. From KISS to complex nightmates all are open at one time or another. BUT Ace was at the first rally in his car, 2nd rally in his RUSTY OLE EAGLE, and YES he was PARKED IN A HOLE, I PUT HIM THERE, ( have never heard the end of it since though).Just kidding, but he does mention it ocasionaly. Memory refreshed, I checked with Bob Sheaves (a Top Tier Auto Engineer who was on the design team for the RTS version developed by GM's Military Vehicle Operations) He was at Bussn' 2000 and heard Ace's explanation about the hole, and laughed, observing Ace had moved his bus and it was the only hole on the grounds that followed Ace's bus around. Ace, I've been a "victim" of FF's humor myself. If you ask a question back rather than go "ballistic" he'll smile at you and give a very insightful answer. Lots of times I think FF's acts like that to break thru the "haze" we get because we're too close to the "problem" to have perspective or see the solution. That being said, I think you did the right thing, for you, in buying the H3-40. I had a bus years ago that, fortunately, I didn't have the spare cash at the time to start converting. While I was gathering parts and info I came to realize it really was a "pit". I consider myself lucky. You recognize the same thing with the Prevost. Onward and Upward | ||

Thanks for clearing certain know it all's up Bill! Sometime's you just have to paint a picture for them to understand! Susan and I will be in Gulfport on Saturday Popping corn all day at a huge event so if it's dinner, we might have to meet up maybe Sunday or whenever it's more convenient! You know us, we'll meet you anywhere! Heck sometimes even un-expected! Marc as for my Eagle? It surely wasn't a "pit" by any means. It was finished and I can thank Bill340 above for inspiring me to own a Prevost. After seeing his, and after many inspections of his, he made me realize that a prevost was not out of reach money wise, and I found out that it really wasn't! I think the name itself is intimidating to most people thinking they could never own one. I was at first too until I found out differently. Not only did I like the modern style, the large storage, and the newness, I liked the fact that parts were still availlable, IF needed! Did I HAVE to sell my Eagle? No, and in fact I bought the Prevost when I still owned the Eagle. Susan said one had to go, and being a no brainer decision, the Eagle went up for sale. Regardless of what some certain KIA's think, it must have not been in too bad of shape for a 65 since I spent 50 bucks and posted it on I@ns site and sold it a very short 6 weeks from pictures only. I think I@N will vouch for that as well as IF I need to prove that to anyone! The Eagle was a nice well planned out coach for Susan and I and the one week we stayed in it IN Arcadia was very comfortable. We found the opportunity to go newer and bigger and it didn't set us back financilly, so "I" kind of went for it (without her knowing all the details) hence the reason why ONE had to go when the deal was done which by the way was all done thru e-mail! Some people have since told me that "my way" (personality) would have to change now that I own a Prevost but you know what? It's just another bus just like yours, his or hers, with a well known name, and I'm still the same me, like it or not! Have I changed? Not really! I just know more about WHO I'm dealing with these days and consider the source/s. I know what I had back then and what I have now and all circumstances leading up to it, and that's all that matters! One thing I WON'T do and that is to be sarcastic to anyone about their bus or what they are doing to it for NO reason or just to be heard! Later... Ace | ||

Ace My first bus, which was a gift, certainly was a pit. Never meant to infer your Eagle was a pit. I don't recall anything about your Eagle except it was there, there was some talk about it and I missed the event when you lost your temper at dinner Fri or Sat night. IIRC, both above and in the past you posted that you were glad to move on. Like I said, it was probably a smart move, you're obviously happier, as am I with my "9". Ace you say it didn't "set you back financially" but on Sept 16, 2004 you posted the following: "As for space savings? Probably none but when you spend almost your life savinbgs to acquire a coach as I have you tend to look for bargains and in my case the tanks were free and I modified them for MY purpose!" My impression since that post is you haven't made any compromises, you've worked diligently on the H3 and the pics look good! Keep it up! | ||

Marc just because I own a prevost doesn't mean I will spend foolishly! Almost spending my Life savings to me is what Susan allows me to spend! LOL Actually and honestly speaking, the Prevost was paid for WHEN we picked it up. That's the only way the dealer would do the deal we got! That TOO can be verified by someone on this site that knows. Did it break me? Not really but when you spend that kind of money at one time you tend to think your broke. Am I still looking for deals? Yes of course all the time! Who wouldn't? No matter who you are, saving money is saving money regardless of what name brand bus you own unless of course you have a spoon shoved where the sun don't shine! If anyone says they aren't looking for a deal, especially when doing a conversion, then they are down right lying! Simple facts! Even when buying todays gas or fuel, we all are looking for the best deal, or buying a new or used car. It's all the same! That's part of life! The biggest reason I purchased the Prevost is the modern style and parts. Next would be the price. If it was much more that what we paiud, then I would probably still own the Eagle and enjoying every mile of it! Ace | ||

It's a classic car show so I'm told! I have never been there but I was approached by the president of the chamber of commerce to fill in for a vendor that plans on not being there! Supposed to be a very large 7 hour day which is just one day the 5th, according to her! Let's hope so anyway! Rich, I agree that the thread got way off subject. I am not sure if your most recent post suggests that you need more seminars. If so, I would be glad to be a panel member (leader if you wish) on the subject of engine conversions. I have a ton of photos from my conversion and I could use a few of them to illustrate certain issues. The session could be part presentation and part question and answer. We could cover both mechanical and electronic conversions. I would be glad to have my bus on display IFFFFFF!!!! I get sufficient miles on it to build enough courage to drive it across country. Right now the engine is running and I hope to get some clutch issues resolved tomorrow and drive it around the yard. Jim | ||

Rich, just to make sure we are on the same page. My suggestion was a seminar for installing a different engine in a bus (e.g. replacing a 6V92 with an 8V92 or a Series 60). I know that Sonnie Gray (“Catskinner”) plans to be there with his Eagle/Cat engine combination. I suspect there are others that will be there with engine conversions. I think there are a lot of folks who think about doing a conversion, but have no concept of the major issues involved. Your reply also might suggest a session on bus engines in general. That was always a popular session at MAK’s rallies when the DD rep. answered questions. Mike Meloche is no longer with DD, but I would bet that there is a fair amount of knowledge within the group attending and it would really be helpful to the folks who are new to our hobby. I still have some of Mike's handouts and they would be great reference material. I would be glad to be a panel member for that session as well. Jim | ||

Rich, if we decide to do an engine conversion seminar, we will need a computer projector and screen. One of the contributions I can make is the sources for some of the hard to find (or expensive) parts. I think I would have time to put a source list together. An example is the shallow pan and all of the associated parts necessary for the Series 60 in a bus. I would guess I have 20 hours of chasing leads from the boards and doing my own research. I plan to document all of that on my project page, so doing it for a seminar would get me down that road a bit. My only fear in all of this is that I would be hogging the seminars. I love to present good information, but I don’t want to squeeze out other folks. Jim | ||

Having been an exhobitor at the NY Boat Show for many years I think the venders will be dissapointed, unless they have low expectations Most of the folks that actually go to Jacks great Bash are already DONE with their vast amount of conversion. Sure a couple of Wannabees get to come for a great FREE education , but that is a strict Minority . And a few hobbists are already planning conversion #4, the mashocist minority With the majority of coaches "almost" finished there isn't too much room for switching concepts to install a venders products. "Hope Springs Eternal" , but for some venders it wont be a Paradise.. Seminars are a far different thing from sales pitches . FAST FRED | ||
