I have been told that we shouldn't back our bus up a hill because it will ruin the transmission. Is this true? It has been backed up my parents' drive twice already. This is the only way we can get it in there. We can't pull it in because the tailpipes, etc will hang up on the driveway up to the cabin Hubby is living in. The drive to my parents' house isn't quite as steep. We have camped most of the time in the mountains (National, State & County parks) and a lot of sites are on a level above the roads, in other words, we would be backing in some places up a hill!

I suspect the comment was regarding a stick shift which often does not have as low a gear in reverse as it does in low. Slipping the clutch is the problem there. Bus clutches are notoriously fragile and slipping the clutch to compensate for too tall a gear is not recommended. However, how else are you supposed to get in the darn driveway?

Be gentle with the clutch.
