Someone recently posted information about changing the seals on a blower for an 8v71. Two things 1) What are the signs that blower seals need changing and what is involved in the process? Sorry this is posted on so many boards I ma looking for the recent post. |

If the blower seals are leaking, after you have run the engine for a while, and you pull the air inlet from the air cleaner to the blower off, you will see oil in the blower housing end plates. If there is any oil at all in there, they are leaking. You will be getting excessive oil out of the air box drains also. As far as changing the seals, you have to diassmble the blower, change seals and bearings if needed, set it up for clearance, You need a service manual to do this, and some experiance is very helpfull, as well as the proper tools needed. If you screw it up, you'll know when the blower comes apart and destroys your engine, so in a nut shell, get an exchange blower, or have someone that knows how to do it, disassmble and overhaul it. OK, thanks for the info. I have the service manual and am a machinist, I might be able to pull it off. What is the blower housing end plate? |

The end plates of the blower, which house the bearings and seals. I don't remember if thats what they are called in the book, but in the dragracing world thats what we call it. |
