I have replaced the old generator on my 66 Eagle with a 150 amp Delco truck alternator. Works super however, when the engine is started and starts to rev, the alternator tries to replace the lost starting voltage as fast as possible, then levels out. The problem is the ampmeter that I have only goes to 60 amps max. I know forcing max amps thru a 60 amp ampmeter is going to fry it, sooner or later. If I could find a matching ampmeter{150 amp} all would be fine. Any suggestions??Comments?? Also, I would like to put 4 house batteries on board, but need advise on battery isolators. Do they work as advertised? Any favorite brands? Thanks in advance for your help. Doug Woodin, Bunnell, Fl |

Take a look in A West products catalog, they should have a shunt to install an ammeter. The shunt passes lots of amps , and only 2 tiny wires feed to the gage. I prefer the solenoid style isolators to the transistor. They are much easier to maintain , trouble shoot and do the initial wiring for. They are also less likely to overcharge one side and under charge the other. Wrangler is a good source for the hook up wires. FAST FRED |
