Ponzi Scheme.

Hey give me your money, I will buy junk and let you hold the title. Then give the the money to rebuild the junk which I will sell then double your money but loan me more to finish the work, Then I will double your money again if you give me more for the "bridge financing"?

I guess it's only illegal if you get caught..(again?)....(and again?).

Too bad they can't spell simple words in their spiel...

I cannot imagine any home improvement operation endorsing this parade of a disaster looking for a place to happen.

How strange such a big successful company does not have an 800 number. I would rather invest in Enron, at least when I call them the call is free

I'm amazed how do you explain or rationalize this, evidently our judicial system doesn't work very well, but I'm sure some bright lawyer will tell me how much I should appreciate our system of justice! What ever happened to Judge Roy Bean?:-(

Guys like this count on finding suckers that haven't heard about him. Until I started following this board, I had never heard of him. Really legit dealers use floorplanning from a bank or lending institution.

How can we warn newbies about this guy? Under "about us" he claims to have three facilities, one of I-95 near Hilton Head and Savannah, one between Tampa and Naples FL on I-85, and one in Allentown, PA.

"Unfortunately, none of our southern facilities are open to the public at this time . We are still in the process of combining our skills and talents with a national corporation."

"Our northern assembly plant is now gearing up to build over 100 Coaches just for 1 client alone will be ready soon ..."

Read closely,

"Usually we pay about double the average investment return."

He is not going to double your money, but merely going to double the average investment returns. That might mean he will give you a 5% return if a passbook account is getting 2.5%.

We could all call him as potential investors. take up his time so he has less to bilk folks that don't know him. Kind of spam him. As he says on his site, its merely a suggestion of the returns and the relationship with investors. Its probably ok for us to want to know more...

Tell him the same BS that he dishes out.

Then tell him you want X amount of coaches, But you or your quality assurance personel or the manager of the Large Rock group your company represents MUST have a tour of the facilities first.
You know how eccentric those Millionaires can be.

Explain to him that you and ALL your money can go elsewere if no tour can be provided. I didn't make my money by throwing it at investments I can't look at.

Wouldn't hurt for someone to waste a little of the sorry $#@^$*&(**&'s time.

Jim Bede of the BD4 aircraft fame has done it no less than 5 times, and always in a grand manner. While under Federal Indictment for fraud, he started advertising to raise money for the BD10 "Personal Jet" Like the one Corky Fornhoff flew as the Coors Silver Bullet exhibition plane. I heard he carries his cojones around in a wheelbarrow!. Current project is a 4 to 6 seat biz-jet, with trans-continetal range. (Number 6 coming up!) Hi Pat.

Hi John! I guess I was raised as a hillbilly, the difference between Redneck and Hillbilly is this: Hillbilly by birth, Redneck by choice! I Think my Dad the Master Chief, pretty much told us like this: All a Man has in life is his Reputation, no one, but no one CONTROLS that but You! You can slander, liable, cuss, and swear at, but what you do as a person decides whether it runs off like water on a ducks back, or sticks like a fly on poop!.........:-) If I remember correctly my Dad didn't use that word "poop" either! You know how those Navy guys are!

Jim Bede was a visionary who contributed to aviation design. His designs are flying. All experimental aircraft of his era had many unfinished projects. Jim Bede's did fly. I don't think he was a fraud. This other fellow sounds like he has contributed very little and taken much.

Yet his constant delusions and lackof understanding caused a few companies to go Kaput!

Worst was the engine suplier for the BD-5 , where he blythly assumed that he could doubble the power if a highly tuned 2 stroke !!!,

When it didn't work , and the poorly designed burried shaft drive setup , began to crack the crankshafts , he blamed the Eng Mfg!

Instead of copying a proven shaft drive from Molt Taylor's Skycar.

Bedee may be a OK engineer (he sez so!) is a LOUSEY business man , but superb at selling an unproven concept.

Maybe Sony should have had him sell their failed version of Beta Max.

off the top, i need to say i don't know any of these people.

i feel the need to comment on a few things though.

"I can assure you he never INTENDED to screw anyone out of anything, it was mostly that plans did not work out as hoped for."

a lot of innovation is like this. even the greats (tesla, etc) have things that didn't work out.

the main difference between now and 50 years ago is research and development costs are much much higher.

"Yet his constant delusions and lack of understanding caused a few companies to go Kaput!"

no one is perfect. i am very very good at what i do. i hire someone for all the things i'm really bad at for a reason.

"Worst was the engine suplier for the BD-5 , where he blythly assumed that he could doubble the power if a highly tuned 2 stroke, When it didn't work , and the poorly designed burried shaft drive setup, began to crack the crankshafts , he blamed the Eng Mfg!"

if an engine manufacturer told me it was doable, and then it didn't work, i would blame them too.

if i take my 8v71 and put a turbo on it or recut my blower gears to boost it, and i get 500 hp out of it, great. i throw a rod through the block, it's still a failure of the engine. (and time to try something else)

the big thing is what people say. i've had customers screw me over for huge amounts of money, and then blame me when their *whatever i built* fails, as if i should have continued to support them and so on. (it's even worse in the computer industry, trust me)

"Instead of copying a proven shaft drive from Molt Taylor's Skycar."

umm. unless it's public domain this is considered theft...

"Bedee may be a OK engineer (he sez so!) is a LOUSEY business man , but superb at selling an unproven concept."

then he's got half of it right. most engineers can't talk to people :-)

"Maybe Sony should have had him sell their failed version of Beta Max."

and this is what caused me to comment.
betamax was a *much* better format than vhs. it failed because of marketing, not because of engineering.

Out of sheer curiosity...

Who on this board has ever made any transaction with Mr. Walker?
I'm really curious. I'm not interested in 2nd or 3rd-hand relays of
horror stories, I'd like to read comments from the hand that's shaken
Mr. Walker's at the signing of a contract.

The only story I've read, noted that after a roof raise had been
completed to the complainant's order, Mr. Walker was instructed
by that person, to "maker it higher"; do the roof raise again.. The
bus was moved to the back of the line, and other buses moved
up... Side-lined and burdened with more customer ordered
changes on this bus, the bus may still be sitting in Mr. Walker's yard.
That story was a tough read, since both sides had torn at the original
contract. I don't care to read more about it, although would love
hearing the closure.

That story aside, who else can testify that they personally have
had business dealings with Mr. Walker, and feel wronged by
his dealings?

I'm going to now put on my flame-proof undies. Let's see how
many one-on-one, personal accounts are made.

Walker was one of the first people I contacted about 4 years ago when I was getting serious about buying a coach. I was excited about the possibility of a bus, and I was quite impressed with his seeming knowledge and offerings to handle all kinds of desirable improvements in buses. I did not ever buy anything from him. He immediately started calling me friend, and I talked with him at length about the many possibilities.

I can be a detail person, and I developed a spreadsheet listing all the improvements and what their estimated cost would be. I asked him for some assurances about a lid on the costs, and as I could see that there would not be much limit on what I could spend with him. After a number of phone calls, it became apparent to me that I could probably buy one already done for less than I would likely spend with him building me one, and with a I could have it right away.

The more I got into it the more details I wanted, and the less he seemed to know and the more relentless I became. He finally "closed" me and said the next thing I needed to do was to come visit, see his place and buy one of coaches so he could get started, or if I wanted I could put up a deposit and he could get me in early on one of his "group buys" so he could allocate one of his better coaches to me and get started before I arrived.

For me there were still too many loose ends, especially the $ one, and I don't like being "hard closed", so I just walked.

So while its true, I cannot relate to you an experience of being screwed by him, I have no doubt that I would have been sucked into a money pit of seemingly good intentions, missed schedules, missed promises and no end in sight to what I would have to spend. I just walked, and kept up my searches with other buses and other dealers. The other thing that saved me was his insistence of using (at the time) only MCI 9's.

Whew! missed a bullet on that one.

Jim -

I can remember at least 16 contractors in both Massachusetts
and Long Island, that were of the "hard sell" type. When I hear
a sales pitch that sounds like it's coming from a used car salesman,
I walk away. Maybe they would have done well for me, maybe not,
but I didn't give them the chance to prove it either way.

Your story was your's personally, and I appreciate that you've
posted it here. I also appreciate your candor, with your comment:

"while its true, I cannot relate to you an experience of being
screwed by him, I have no doubt that I would have been sucked
into a money pit of seemingly good intentions"

Although I would have said "could have", rather than use an
absolute "would have", I respect your words and sentiments.
It was your own "gut feeling" at the time, and you've likely
made the best choice for yourself.

I don't know Mr. Walker; I am not attempting to support his
endeavor, nor vilify it. I'd like to believe in people, and give
them the benefit of doubt. In Mr. Walker's case, from what
I've read in other on-line documents, the words "good intentions"
may be the best fitting. He appears to be a poor business
person, and much too disorganized. I would strongly defer
from calling him a "scam artist" (among other things) as others
feel necessary, unless I learn he's been convicted of that crime.

Thanks again for the honest input, Jim!

An old saying that seems to still ring true - "The harder someone tried to sell you something, the less it is probably worth". I too walk away when someone gives me the "hard sell" since the above (I have found through experience) is usually true. The saying goes for most everything - from cars to houses, to religon, to politics, to buses.

Value has to be recognized by the buyer to be value to the buyer. Value to the seller is an entirely different matter! The two are not the same thing (although many sales people want you to think so).

Incidently, the word "value" is an often over-used word with many different definitions. Beware!

I have also talked to Walker on the phone about three years ago as I wanted to get a conversion. Sounded and looked good on the surface, but when asked if I might visit his facility, he said no, it was not open to the public. He also could not even commit to a cost of any kind. I smelled a rotting rat and looked elsewhere.

Walker putting his demo coaches out for sale. Without a demo, its gonna be hard to convince folks he can do a coach.

Notice that his "starter coaches" are non-running, and that his "mci 9" in my opinion is a half-finished conversion.

Here is a strange thing I just noticed. I was looking over buses on Ebay and found a listing for a bunch of NJT MCI 9's. They are all in Allentown, PA the same place Walker is. The thing that struck me as really strange is the seller is or claims to be somebody other than Walker. Maybe he needs some quick $$$ for the lawsuit. The photos under http://walkercoach.com/newplant.shtml are very similar as the photos on the Ebay auction.

John,

I saw all I needed to see when I inspected Walker's "efforts" at Arcadia.

I,too, spoke with him on one occasion. Asked one question about the projects he left behind in Arcadia. When he realized I'd inspected them personally, he hung up and wouldn't take any follow-up calls.

If it looks like a duck, waddles like a duck and poops like a duck, it ain't an honest businessman. The hell with needing a conviction.

I have a lot of respect for your experience but those views you expressed ain't consistent with my impression of you. (Not an attack, just puzzled as to where you're coming from)

I visited Walker , when we still had our Wanderlodge.

Inside the shop were GM coaches undergoing a HUGE (2ft) roof raise.

The coaches with roofs removed werre regularly moved about be driving them.

Nowhere in the shop was even a trammel or any equipment to hope to get the wheels in line and spaced correctly apart before welding back the roof structure.

"Don't need it" was the response when quizzed.

I Fled at speed , from such nonsense.
