Yesterday my friend put down a deposit on a school bus to convert. Anybody have any experience titling or registering conversion busses in VA? The guy that sold it to us said we had to put in a bed and a couch, and title it as a "house vehicle". I'm pretty sure he had no clue what he was talking about. Thanks in advance. Scott |

Hey Scott, I live in Galax near Fancy Gap. We bought our GM bus and drove it back from Conn. Went to the DMV to title it, I told the girl behind the counter it was going to be converted to a RV. She didn't bat an eye and went ahead and put motorhome on the title. I later found out that I was supposed to remove the seats and start the conversion process. Then contact the DMV and they send out a inspector or deputy to certify it. Just like you do when you title a homemade trailer. It is insured as an RV through State Farm. All they did was take a few pictures. |

Scott, We titled our 4106 and will soon our "new eagle" as a motor home without any questions at DMV. Just tell them it's a -----bus converted to a motor home. Value it as you bought it for taxes. Godspeed, Michael |

I bought my bus in CA. Drove it home, in VA on a three day trip ticket. I was able to do the transaction all on line with the VA DMV site. When, I was ready to start driving it, I tooked the title to DMV with proof of insurance. (State Farm) I told them it was a motorhome. Since they had not heard of an RTS motorhome, they never questioned it as a bus. I was told by my father-in-law (retired State Police Captain), a DMV person should have viewed and checked off that my 'Motorhome' was really a motorhome. So be prepared for that possibility. Jeff |
