back when I was working on my 05 I found a hot water system at lowes or HD that provided hot water for your home almost instantly without a hot water tank. I'm going today to take a better look at this system for the bus. and wondering if maybee one could be used to heat the engine with some modification? |

Ron: I have a Presion Temp Tankless water heater that I use to heat the coach and pre heat the eng, and I use a heating coil in the hot water tank for domestic hot water. Or I can use the eng. to do the same while traveling |

I just checked on that system at HD. way too expensive $1000.00 still only get 6 gallons of hot water. and only heats water 45 degrees warmer than what it is at the time. so in cold weather it would be useless. Bill give me more info on your system please C.R. |

Keep in mind that if you don't need a LOT of hot water all at once you don't need a big HW Heater. The smaller it is, the quicker you will recover. The one I got was from Lowes and it's for going under a wet bar. very small and have never run out of Hot water yet but there is only the two of us! Showers are good and as soon as one is done the water is hot again for the other. It takes up a small space in the bay but probably could be installed inside someplace under a cabinet. I can't re-call the name right off but it's blue and they still sell them! Titan or something like that I think! Ace |

Ace how many gallons and is it propane or electric? I dont need hot water all the time so I would like to have something I can shut off so not to waste energy. I will put an insta hot in for my 2 sinks. C.R. |

I use a 30 gallon electric "low boy". Used for mobile homes. Definitely overkill for two people, but we have 3 kids, take long showers, and have never ran out. 110v, bot it at sears. Fits in the bay of my MC8. I'd like to go to an instant hot water heater. I think there is a size that would handle a small cabin. Not sure how much $$ HTH, Dug 75 MC8 Arcadia, FL |

Ron yes what Bill said! He is the one that gave me the idea of using it and I love the way it works for the two of us! No it isn't the high dollar type most of you use but hey, hot water to me is hot water and it gets hot quickly and stays hot for a long while when not being used! When it is used, it recovers fast! Works for me, er...us! Ace |

Most "instant" HW heaters have an operational problem with camper showers. Dirt house folks just let the water run , so the unit fires off and after you adjust the pressure & temperature ,all is well. Folks with FW tanks will usually attempt to save water with a "Navy Shower" where the water is turnred OFF while scrubbing up. This causes the heater to not create heat (no water flow) so each turn back on gives a shot of cold water as you wait for the heater to fire & produce. The old standard was a 1 1/2 stand pipe very high up in the shower that the running water from the telephone shower head could return the FW to the tank.Thje unit would run the entire time youre showering , but you only loose some heat & not the water while scrubbing. Someone pointed out that a better way would be with a shower diverter valve that can select bathtub (FW tank return) or shower head. Sounds like a great idea , we go 10 days being really carefull with a 50 gal FW supply , but it took 40 years of sailing to develop the discipline. FAST FRED |
