Hi all..I'm in FL, in the West Palm area, over the holidays and will be here through January for sure but we're having problems finding a place to park the bus. It needs to be moved from my parents Trailer park on threat of eviction ASAP. EVERY storage place within 50 mile radius has zero spaces available and I'm running out of options. If anyone knows anyone or anywhere that I can put the bus for a couple months max, I'll Gladly pay..And It can be anywhere within a few hours no, prob....Wow, I had not thought of then fact it was going to be so difficult to find a place to park. By the way, this is for storage, not living in. On another note, RV park monthly rates are really outragious in all the places that I need to be..In the Nashville, I may as well rent a small apartment for what they want to charge me to live in my bus on their lots!! I'm beginning to understand why some of these Vandweller types, convert box trucks that don't look like an RV on the outside so they can park in any industrial area/Store lot without getting hassled. But that's a different subject for another discussion. |

Almost all of the storage bin facilities have room for RVs. They usually charge around $40-$50 per month. |

You can see why I drove a minivan a couple of months ago when I visited that area. Really crazy stuff for us from the midwest. |

Yea, John, I know it sounds crazy but we called every storage place in the phone book and NONE have space...All the big chains like PS Public Storage had NOTHING within even a 50 mile radius!!! We have to call a place Friday as they may have 1 space open up!!..>and they are all $150 or so for a 40 foot space around here, which is fine... |

Sean- When you said "...It can be anywhere within a few hours.." I assume you're able to go two hours or so, away? Any of the storage bin "chains" will call around for you to see who has a spot. Up here at Melbourne (100 mi from you), there's plenty of places, but I'm sure there's a bunch a lot closer to you. I have mine at a boat/RV storage place up here. I pay by the year. It works out to around $40 per month. (he provides electric and water only for repair work or clean-up) There's other places up and down Rt 1 with vacancies also. The only difficulty I've heard of, was the difficulty deciding which one to use. Must be tough down your way! |

Sean, If you cannot find anything closer, I am in Arcadia (about 2 1/2-3 hours) and know of some spaces in this area. Call me at 863*993*3683. If I am not home, leave a message. Jack |

Hi Sean and Folks: There are several small bus companies in the West Palm Area, or perhaps a trucking company might have a spot out back. Since you are there, check the Yellow Pages and give them a call. Explain that you are just looking for a storage spot while visiting your elderly Mom. You just might find a willing ear. I am quite familiar with the area which is being built up quickly, as my Mom wintered in Lake Worth, until her mobile home was destroyed in the last storm. I Hope this HELPS!!! LUKE at US COACH |

Richard I think he wants a place to STORE his bus rather than park it in an RV park for 705 bucks with nobody in it! Is this the right answer? Ac |

I am just still in shock over the $705 a month. Down in this part of the country, you can get a very nice large lot with palm trees for $100 a month, AND it is even further South. |

The city (rv) park here in Jax Fl is currently $900.00 per month. Still thankful to all that helped regarding that charge. |

The State campgrounds are a two week deal. They want to grab cash from tourists and don't cater to long term live-ins. The small, private campgrounds offer deals for long term stays. One over in Haines City, Fl got under $300 per mo. The one we stayed at in Satellite Beach (Ocean across street) for 1-1/2 years was $400 per month and it included water, elec, sewer and cable. It looks like he's raised his rates, but if you're going to be there for a year, I'd ask for a better rate. |

After reading Dontx's post I believe I shall paraphrase Mssr. H. Greeley and "Go West Young (old?) Man". Most RV parks in S.W. FL. start at around $650.00, and storage, if you can find it is $125.00 and up. Fenced and patrolled (high demand) is $250.00 month. FEMA has purchased several hundred 30 ft. camping trailers, and virtually every empty spot in the area is full of them. No one living in them, just sitting there empty. Your tax dollars at work. Cheers...JJ |

Yea John Jewett, This is exactly what i'm finding...No offense to anyone, I grew up in Palm Beach County FL but I have to say, if you want to stay here and pay those rates, YOU CAN HAVE IT!!!...Another reason why I'm not meant to be around these parts very long..... AS far as the FEMA trailers go, no wonder there are no spaces for RV's down this way!! If I have not found one by Friday, I'll venture further out and Give Jack a call...Also, Dave, thanks for the kind offer!... Thanks all!! |

Over in fort myers beach area there is a storage place for Rv's boats and trailers. It's huge and secure. It's on pine ridge Rd. the spot for selling items is about $60.00 a month and the regular storage is cheaper. I forget the name. there are a few places on pine ridge so when looking for the # check all. but the one I'm talking about is the best. Captain Ron |

I just looked at one in Ft Meyers from the list furnished above. For a months stay, the lot rent is $1175, $135 utilities, $165 for a third person, and in the final screwing, $75 for a cat that never gets out of the RV. That is $1550 for a months stay! That would sure purverize the old Social Security check for sure, we can congratulate Ron on his lucratave career to be able to stay there I guess, but not my idea of a fun way to spend money. |

Fort Myers Camping? http://www.shadyacresfl.com/html/rates.html $635 mo Still too much for my budget, but it ain't a grand a month. We found Florida's west coast to be more catered to the big spenders than the eastern side. For the better "deals", you have to go inland, and away from the key attractions, and you have to look beyond "Woodalls". We found the County campgrounds and Corps of Engineer's parks to be the best value. They're usually off the beaten path, but have the best scenery and privacy... and safety. Florida County Parks Down in Broward County, we found Easterlin Park (1000 N.W. 38th St., Oakland Park, Fl) absolutely excellent! True 50amp service, all services and extra large lots...and rates you wouldn't believe! You won't find good values at any "RV Resort". |

OK, so it was a bit much, however his experience was that there was absolutely nothing available in the area for storage or anything else due to the hurricane. Most parks are closed and the few that are open can charge anything they want. Richard |

RV parks are a rapidly vanishing breed here. In Palm Beach County, a 1 acre residential lot, way out West, uncleared, goes for $250,000. One acre outparcels in shopping centers are over one million. In addition, the county seems to be forcing remaining RV parks & mobile home parks out because they don't want transients ("low lifes"). "This is not your father's" Palm Beach County anymore. |

That was exactly the attitude I experienced while visiting Cape Coral (Ft Meyers area). RV's are simply regarded as low life people, to be shunned and run out of town. They won't even allow one to come visit a house for a few minutes! I am just too old fashioned I guess, cannot quite absorb that as a proper standard, judging people on what they drive. |

West Palm 1998, we just fueled up with a whopping big $65.00 worth of diesel. We were not allowed to pull in back with the trucks to go inside. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!! we pulled thru past the security guard and I parked the coach went inside and came out 10 minutes later just as the local sherriff pulled up. I showed him my reciept and told him i was leaving but had needed to use the facilities. I was free to go with a warning! I should have just blocked the fuel pumps? I am still pissed just thinking about that. In Massachusets truck stop had to get a ticket entering for 2hours, free if fueling. These are the reasons lawn chairs and awnings at Sprawl-Mart drive me crazy. |
