Is there anyone here had the experience of purchasing stainless steel dress up pieces and found that they are held together with double faced tape. We purchase stainless steel not only because it looks nice, but because of the lifetime of the product. I was told that a customer was told that "you didn't expect that to last forever, did you?" That is not satisfactory. Anyone have any input? |

Well, they are using a much better grade of double-sided tape, these days! |

read the build diary on this guy's rig: http://www.robgray.com/motorhomes/index.htm the new doublesided tape is stronger than you'd believe.. in some cases (where things have to move slightly) it's actually stronger than welding it. -dd |

Well, I saw for myself an assembly that had a better tape put on after IBPs failed and it came apart also. The weather gets to it quicker and deteriorates it. Some said to put silicone sealant on it rather than Sikiflex. |

Lew, I hope you don't use silicone seal for strength; that's a recipe for disaster. Sometimes failures like you mentioned are caused by things that are not immediately obvious. In the case of metals, it's not uncommon for them to come from the maker with contaminants such as oil on them. About the only thing that I know for sure about double sided tape is that the stuff I have looked at was expensive as h***. Good luck on your project.
