We're currently converting a 1978 Mercedes Benz 303. Can someone advise the best way to secure floorboards and what to put under them prior to this. Also what is the best type of timber that won't warp or move. Also any ideas on the best material to build cupboards/cabinets. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks |

RE: Cabinets -- Best material that won't warp: High Density Particleboard...no wood grain to warp but very heavy also screws will loosen from the movement of the bus. How to keep material from moving due to movement of bus: Put in bus that doesn't move! You must remember there will be some movement of the cabinets due to the flexing of the bus. To build the cabinet boxes, I reccomend that you use cabinet grade plywood. It not only looks good but is designed to not warp as bad as solid wood and it will hold up to a fair amount of movement. How well your cabinet hold up depends on how well you build your cabinet. Wood is a moving, breathing material. It absorbs and releases moisture and in the process it grows and shrinks. (Ever looked at how a raised panel door is built. Not out of one piece, the center panel "floats" inside a frame.) As far your doors, you can use a High Density Particleboard that is laminated on one or both sides with a High Pressure Plastic Laminate such as Formica or Wilsonart Brands. The interior side of the door can also be a low pressure melamine liner. Or you can use wood doors. If you are careful on the sizing of your cabinets you can buy pre-made wood or laminate doors at Home Depot or Lowes type lumber yards. |
