Has anyone converted their baggage door locks from air operated to key operated? I am working on an MCI 102A3. |

I have a 96A3 with MCI baggage bay locks already... As it turns out the locks that MCI utilized on my bus were sourced from Ford's 70's & 80's door lock supplier. I recognized them immediately when I first started working on my 96A3 and as it turned out I needed to replace several of the locks. I went to Pep Boys and told them I needed door locks for a 76 F-100 pick-up and got myself several sets. Probably I could have found a supplier who would have had them all keyed alike but considering how cheap they were, I spent a little time to find the lock with the shortest tumblers, and on a few winter nights while watching tv I matched tumblers to the one I'd chosen, and filed down the few that needed it until I now have not only a complete set of matching locks on the bus, keyed alike, I also have spares and one of these days enough to put locks on my engine bay doors. If you don't mind having more than one key for the entire bus then you can skip the last part. All in all it was time consuming but cheap, still... $100 for 6 locks keyed alike sounds pretty reasonable to me. Brian |

I want to do away with the air operated locking system and go to a key lock system. The cylinder and keys are not the problem, the locking mechanism is the problem. In looking things over, and talking to Butch Williams I think his system is the way to go. You can't beat the price either. Fifteen bucks a door is a deal, includes free shipping for six or more too. I looked a Nick Badame's 102, he used the exisitng air locks and converted them to key locks. It was very simple and inexpensive to do. Look on the other board for him. |

bob my mc7 has the old spring and wire lifts and was thinking on air or gas struts to open them and 12 volt lock strikers to lock them, so as not to have any thing showing from the out side. I'm trying to have a smooth of look as i can when i reskin them. is there a problem with the air operated units so i don't spend money thats useless ? |

There is really no problem with the air operated units, other than you have to have air for them to operate. Something you don't always have when parked for a period of time. Bob |
