Where can I get info on the basement AC systems available? I assume they are 110 volt, but how many amps? Do they have heat strips or do you folks put gas heaters in the coaches?. Based on what you have now, would you do something different? |

most of the basement AC units are engine driven compressors with 12 or 24 volt blowers. 4104's came with a small gasoline engine to run the AC I have kept my basement AC and run the compressor with the generator engine, abandoning the gas engine but using its fuel tank as a reserve diesel tank (25 gal) |

The RV basement style units mostly use the same compressors and parts as a rooftop , just in a different set up , and with a much bigger blower , to push the air up a duct , rather than just let it fall out a hole. The hassles with a rooftop is you usually need to tear the roof apart and reinforce the hole where a 100lb + AC unit will be bouncing down the road with you, and of course the constant loud noise when operating. The hassles with a basement is you need to follow the Mfg. instructions to the size of the delivery AND return ducts. A bit more thinking , but worth it for the quiet! Each compressor will draw about 15A ( some newer ones an amp less} when running , and either can draw up to 65A on the instant of start-up. The amps are easy at a campground , OK for a good 5KW+ gen set , but sometimes hard for a lesser inverter to provide. The basements do use a bit of under bay space, but the coach gets to keep its fine look. FAST FRED |
