I have seen these advertised on Bluebird conversions but cant find any info. I am interested in hydronic heat with a propane fired boiler instead of a diesel unit. Thanks for any info

Precision Temp, Inc. (800-934-9690)(www.Precisiontemp.com) makes a unit called the TwinTemp+ that is distributed by TCL Sales & Distribution Inc. (909-279-8054)(www.tclsales.com). The TwinTemp+ is an all in one unit like an AquaHot, but it is LP fired, not diesel. It even has a "Hot Tap" that delivers water hot enough for soup or coffee. I do not see anything in their literature about engine heating or using heat from the engine.

Primus™ is sold by Vantage Point Products, Inc. 1835 Stearling Ave, P.O. Box 4701 Elkhart, IN 46514(219-293-HEAT(4328)). No web site listed on their 5 year old litterature. Their unit is LP fired, but it feeds a hot-water loop that functions in the same way as the loop for the diesel-fired units.
The Primus is like an LP Webasto while the TwinTemp is like an LP version of the scaled down AquaHot. The third model, not the HydroHot.

thanks George and Bill. I got thru on the precison temp 800 # and talked to Fred who had the info I needed and is sending it. Seems they dont regularly encourage the propane fired unit because of expense and complexity. I was thinking the propane would be less maintenance than the diesel fired units which seem to soot up and need nozzles. I was told by George that he never has a problem as he uses his diesel fired unit monthly to pre-heat before running his engine, excersising both.

I do not know who you got your information from, but I used a diesel fired unit for 15 years and never had to change a nozzle or any soot problem buildup.

Hi Richard, I got the soot up problem off this board on several posts with differing reasons given. We have nat gas heat in our house and dont need the annual cleanings and inspections that the oil fired units do. We also have a large propane tank (bomb) in ourcoach. The price of diesel on LI now is 2.85-3.20 a gal. Just checking out an alternative way to get warm. Did you use your burner regularly, and what was the longest and the typical sit time? Thanks Dave

I used it a significant amount of time. I regularly commuted from California to Florida several times a year, summer and winter, and I usually spent several weeks in WV during the winter and the furnace was on constantly.
I suspect the soot problem had something to do with the installation or how the exhaust was installed. Mine burned very clean with no detectable odor after it was on for a couple of minutes and no detectable smoke. It was a Webasto brand.

Thanks Rich, it seems the ones used constantly dont have the problems.

I have a Primus heat system in my coach and love it. I would like to get some more printed info on the system and talk to someone at the Vantage Point Projects company but I don't know if they are still in business. Any help anyone can give would be great. They put the heat in after the coach was purchased by a former owner, and we didn't get very much instructions on how to use it, except for a small pamphlet. We were able to figure out how to run it, but I would like to know about maintenance and adding fluid to the system.

Dave Galey wrote a bit about it in his conversions publication....have no idea what he may know in addition to what was published. (see the Books and Articles section in the home page of this BNO site)

I inquired of him and he stated they, indeed, are no longer in business, however, as I recall, I chased them on the internet and did find at least a company connection.
